A foaming agent used to fight fires contaminated the city’s water supply, prompting an urgent alert to avoid tap water and sending thousands of residents scrambling for bottled water and answers. City officials told those residents to avoid drinking the water, but also to avoid bathing, cooking, brushing teeth or washing dishes and clothes in tap water. The water is also unsafe for animals. The city also warned against treating the water yourself, explaining that boiling water would not help; Also, Verizon is in advanced talks to acquire rival telecommunications operator Frontier Communications. Frontier moved its corporate headquarters to Dallas last year from Connecticut, bringing administrative functions to Texas for a company with more than 14,000 employees in 25 states; a Northeast Dallas library recommended to be closed amid city budget cuts will likely stay open after community opposition to the plan; And Elvis Andrus, the fresh-faced, energetic kid whose arrival helped usher in the Texas Rangers’ AL dynasty more than a decade ago, will officially retire as an active player on Friday as a Ranger.
