The Pitt Prison Education Project offers credit-bearing courses taught by University of Pittsburgh faculty members to combined classes of traditional university students (Outside students) and non-traditional students (Inside students) held in nearby correctional facilities. Courses are developed and taught by individual instructors following the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program (IO) framework. In collaboration with their home universities and local carceral institutions, faculty members and Outside students travel to the prison to hold in-person classes with Inside students.
