On this episode we speak with Scott Lombardo, Founder of V-MAT, Veterans Martial Arts. Master Scott Lombardo is a 6th Degree Black Belt in American Isshinryu Karate under Grand Master Ernie Temple. Translated, Isshinryu simply means One Heart Way. Scott began his Martial Arts studies in 1990. He is well rounded in the culture, history and philosophy of the Arts in addition to the physical aspects of forms, sparring and self-defense. In addition to the demanding requirements for his current rank, Scott spent two years redesigning the Isshinryu system in order to offer Martial Arts instruction to amputee students, with and without prosthetics. Scott has also successfully taught students with learning disabilities, and women's self defense and rape prevention courses. As a cancer survivor, he also teaches the daily life balance and benefits the Martial Arts offer - from real life experience and perspective. V-MAT: When a warrior comes home from battle, it is a difficult transition process that requires more than flipping a light switch to turn off that thought process. The camaraderie, brotherhood/sisterhood, discipline and balance required in Martial Arts training are the same characteristics required to handle the stresses of daily life - as well as it's more challenging situations. Students will learn the benefits the Martial Arts have on the human mind, psyche and behavior. This calming effect is learned through the physical practice of traditional kata (forms), as well as breathing, decision making skills and the evaluation process of when to passively or actively defend one's self. Martial Arts have been proven to assist in the physical, mental and spiritual stability caused by many issues, in all walks of life.
