Deron | Gangstercast 79
Manage episode 123793437 series 44887
This episode of The Gangstercast is orchestrated by Deron, who is the Managing Director at Paradise Distribution, and Label Manager for Dirtybird. This is what he had to say...
“When I started buying records in 1996, I lived in Portland, OR, and it was primarily breakbeat and progressive house in the stores. While I enjoyed (trying) to match beats, I wasn’t fully passionate about the music I was finding. A buddy from LA came to visit one day and had Doc Martin’s ’Unlock Your Mind’ CD. The very first song was the Cevin Fisher ‘The Way We Used To” acapella, and then DJ Sneak's “Latin Seoul” comes in. With the first bounce of those beats, I knew that was the type of music I’ve been trying to find, and the quest began.
Those specific Sneak beats I heard were literally the spark that inspired my 20 year passion for House music, which has become my full time career.
While I kept on the hunt for anything that sounded like the type of House music I heard that day (with several Sneak records in the bag), it was a couple years before I actually got to see Sneak play live, and it was exactly what I expected—funky, deep, tech, vocals, long mixes, nothing pre-planned …. and never letting up from the first record.

This mix I did for the Gangstercast is based on those bits of inspiration I got from Sneak 20 years ago. Funky, deep, tech, vocals, long mixes, nothing pre-planned …. and never letting up from the first record.
As the world tends to come full circle, here it is two decades later and not only have we become good friends, but I also work with him and his team to distribute his music to the world. Hopefully to light many more sparks."
