The emergence of crowdfunding platforms on Kickstarter and IndieGoGo have enable independent developers of board and video games to build (or rebuild) a fan base and funding source that would not otherwise be available to them. This innovations has faciliated the development of numerous board games and video games over the last couple of years. We examine some of the successes by name and explore key strategies. In particular, we will focus on the re-emergence of a fan favorite from years ago, The Bard's Tale.
