Kadant Inc.'s shares rose to a record after the supplier of paper-processing equipment reached a deal to expand through a takeover. The company agreed to buy the forest-product business of a closely held machinery maker, NII FPG, for $173 million in cash. Kadant said in a statement that the deal complements its existing product line.
