What’s in a Label? In this edition of the MOAS Podcast we’re looking at labels and linguistics in Migration. We’re going to explore how the labels given to people on the move have positive and negative impacts on their future. We’ll also see how those labels are shaped for political reasons as well as convenience and the consequences that come with that.

To do this we’re going to speak with Professor Heaven Crawley about her new research into migration categories and the politics behind them. We’ll also be speaking to two contrasting campaigns focused on labels. One says let’s get rid of them and focus on the people, the other says let’s keep the label and let the people given it decide what it means to them. Then we’ll be going back to Erfurt Germany to hear from Tarek Esmail and see how he feels about this. You’re also going to hear our first in a series of Things You Didn’t Know. It’s about the countries that people MOAS has rescued have come from. First up is Yemen.
