Behöver man verkligen kunna 50 000 svenska ord för att klara sig i samhället? Absolut. Minst! Det säger Mats Myrberg, professor emeritus i specialpedagogik. Under årens lopp är det många lärare på föräldramöten som hänvisat till hans forskning: "Ett barn som läser eller blir läst för kan ca 50 000-70 000 ord när det är 17 år. Ett barn som inte läser eller blir läst för kan ca 15 000-17 000." Men hur har han kommit fram till de siffrorna? Och om de stämmer, hur lär man sig så många ord? Och vad innebär det egentligen att "kunna ett ord"?
