"Att inte fler huvudmän tar skolbiblioteken på allvar gör mig förbannad" säger Erik Fichtelius, som lett Kungliga bibliotekets arbete med rapporten Skolbibliotekets roll för elevernas lärande. I en tid när mörka krafter hotar demokratin är biblioteken en femte statsmakt som måste stärkas, menar Fichtelius. Han påminner om att staten är tydlig med sin önskan att alla skolor ska ha ett skolbibliotek. Men så mycket som hälften av landets elever saknar fungerande skolbibliotek, enligt rapporten. "Det är lomhört! Hur högt måste staten skrika?" undrar Erik Fichtelius.
