The school in California where that terrible shooting took place last week locked down in 8 seconds. After it was all over, Katherine Fife shared that the principle said, "Every one of our kids got to sleep in their own bed tonight." It was amazing how well that staff acted and how quickly to protect. (Katherine is the Principal Consultant at Philanthropy Matters.)

Kristin Sokol, Life Coach and KSL Contributor, thinks controlling access to lots of places where people gather is a good idea. She would like to see more security in school - even armed security in schools, guard shacks.

Amanda Dickson shared the story of the hero custodian who tried to distract the shooter, who drew fire and slowed down the shooter.

Laura Wall, Development Director of Alzheimer's Association, talked about how her daughter is reluctant to go to gatherings in New York City because of the concern over violence. She doesn't love the fact that our kids have been raised in fear, although our generation did drills underneath desks in case the Russians dropped the bomb.

Katherine reminded us that there is so much positive to remember. And she reminded us that our kids carry the stress of these events in their brains. It's important to disconnect and just play checkers.
