Everyone knows about yoga, and many people participate in it. But as we mentioned in the earlier episodes, there seems to be a rather large abyss between the Indian tradition of yoga – which has its roots in the early Upanishads (perhaps even earlier) and flowered especially under the hand of Patanjali in the 8th century – to what we see and maybe practice now in the west. Of all the Indian or East Asian traditions to gain a foothold in the west, none have been more successful than yoga. But how much does contemporary yoga practice distort or even contradict the aims and techniques of traditional Indian yoga? In this episode, we’re very fortunate to be joined Peter Ujvari, who is a mature practitioner and teacher of Shadow Yoga, as well as being a scholar of European philosophy.
