Hard to believe, but it's been a year and half since I released my last studio concept mix. I'm excited to break the streak and share this with you today. I've always considered these self-released studio mixes the backbone of my identity. They were the primary medium of artistic communication - from me to you - for many years. Of course, some live recordings and guest mixes were released along the way, but they're not quite the same as a self-released studio mix... mostly because these aren't bound by any aesthetic constraints (like the sound of a label, podcast, or responsiveness of a dance floor in the moment). These mixes are my most authentic voice. After taking a long break from the one thing that's been so fundamental to defining who I am, I thought deeply about what I wanted to say, which was a delightful challenge. How can I remain continuous from where I left off in August, 2017? At the same time, how can I avoid falling into the trap of doing what I've always done? After all, music has changed... you've changed... my taste has changed, but I'm still me. Or am I now someone else?
