A three part series produced by BAFTA and Emmy award winning Atlantic Productions, ‘Time Scanners’ uses cutting edge 3D laser scanning technology to put history’s building wonders to the test, unlocking the secrets of how the world’s most iconic engineering creations were constructed.

Heading the quest is Steve Burrows, one of the world’s leading structural engineers, and he is joined by laser scanning experts from the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies at the University of Arkansas.

Bio

Steve’s long career in civil engineering has spanned decades. Since graduating from Liverpool Polytechnic in 1982, he worked for the leading engineering firm ARUP where he was heavily involved in their work on Beijing’s Bird’s Nest stadium. He was made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in recognition of his work in the field of engineering worldwide. He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, a Chartered Engineer, and also member of the Institution of Structured Engineers.

After a long career at ARUP, Steve left to join the US consultancy practice AECOM and then WSP where he held senior positions. Steve currently works with Cameron MacAllister Group in Orinda, California USA as principal consultant and is an executive at Katerra and advises Safehub.

Steve has also been hosting television documentaries that explore famous archaeological monuments and uncover the engineering secrets that made them possible.

Although once afraid of public speaking, Steve has made himself very visible (or audible) on television, radio, in keynote addresses, and even in an IMAX movie designed to attract children to STEM subjects. He believes it’s the greatest time in history to be an engineer, and that optimism carries over into everything he does for his clients.
