Scott Mattraw left Northern New York for a career in film, just as the industry was on the cusp of a boom, and he quickly boomed to stardom himself. Perhaps his most famous role today is as Bashful in "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," but he was in more than 600 other films, according to some reports.

His story doesn't start there, though. Mr. Mattraw was a well-known local theater actor in Watertown, a former manager of the Avon theater and opened a successful, if short-lived, restaurant on Public Square in Watertown.

Like another well-known actor and native to the region (Viggo Mortensen), Mr. Mattraw stayed connected to the area, and the local newspaper often carried news of his success in Hollywood to the delight of readers.

This episode is one recommended by our listeners. If you have an idea for a show, please reach out. We love to hear from you!

This episode was edited by Christina Knott. Music is "Boom" by Podington Bear. Audio clip of Scott Mattraw is from the 1937 film "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" by Disney. For more information, click here.
