To this day, this 19th century story is part truth and part legend, contributing to New England’s dark past. Henry Maine, also known as Harry, was a successful fisherman who came to the Massachusetts seaport town of Ipswich in 1671 with another man named Andrew Diamond. Diamond prospered in New England’s trade with Great Britain and became quite wealthy.
