We all would like to think that we're immune to being persuaded, but were that true, advertising wouldn't work, the best candidates would always get elected, and our personal relationships would always be equitable. Hashtag cults are groups that signal membership by using a hashtag or keyword. This allows the group to operate on many different sites and makes them difficult to pin point. They use the hashtag model to spread propaganda on a variety of social media sites without having a central account. This is usually because their ideas are offensive or their methods of communicating are abusive and border on website policy violations.
