What a day! The Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by ready to analyze
and criticize, the brief window of opportunity to heal and an overpopulated house and no entrance. The only way in was from the roof but deconstruction had to happen without the owner’s permission. But, it seemed to them that it was now or never; They were desperate. I wonder what the owner of the house thought?
But then the most inexplicable part happened: When Jesus saw their faith in
action, their determination. He didn’t heal the man but forgave his sins!
Did Jesus misunderstand their need?
No, I don’t think so. Jesus actually by action and doctrine describes the central most important part of the gospel: The forgiveness of sins. Physical healing lasts for a season, the forgiveness of sins and salvation, forever. And by this statement Jesus who He is: both Savior and Lord instigated created a theological debate. Did He plan to do this all along?
