Luke 1:26-38 (See also Matthew 1:18-24)
A) Doctrinally the Apostles Creed says Jesus Christ was...“born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, crucified and rose from the dead...”(Our central
core beliefs)
B) But in addition, Mary’s experience underline some common core aspects of
Christian Life.
1) Where does her favor before God come from(what about our calling?)
i) There were other pure virgins in Nazareth and others besides
Joseph, of the lineage of David. She was not conceived
“Immaculata” or sinless (not in Scripture) Then why them?
ii) It was totally God’s choice, by His sovereignty and Grace. And
Mary in the New Testament is not presented as a perfect person
both in behavior towards and understand her first born, Jesus.
For example Matthew 12:47 and Luke 8:20, Jesus rebuked
His family members, including Mary who wanted Him to
attend to them and not spend so much time with the crowds
gathered around Him. She didn’t fully understand Jesus’s
call.
