The NexCrew was formed out of the ashes of its predecessors - NexusGen Radio and AfterDark Radio. In December 2016, creator Jazzy Ne' decided to open the podcast up to the realities of today's society. She and her partner believed that they were playing things too safely and really wanted to branch out. In their mind, they believed that not enough Black people received recognition for the contributions to the geek community. Regardless of the outlet used, they are always met with adversity especially in the cosplay world. The NexCrew was created to stand against said issues that continue to rise against Black people heavily involved in the geek culture. Through a podcast, blog posts, press, and community events, our desire is to build bridges where the big fish can't. We purposefully highlight the creative aspect of Black and other non-Black geeks. Be it a graphic designer, comic book artist, dancer, cosplayer, musician, songwriter, etc. Your gifts and talents should be heard, received and understood.
