During the New York Giants' training camp on Friday, July 26, key events and observations were highlighted by John Schmeelk from Giants.com. The competition between Deonte Banks and Malik Nabers continued, with both players having their moments of success. Rookie Dante “Turbo” Miller impressed by catching two touchdowns. Daniel Jones showcased his skill with a well-placed pass to Jalin Hyatt, avoiding a big hit from Bobby Okereke, while Drew Lock threw a deep ball to Bryce Ford-Wheaton. Kayvon Thibodeaux stood out with two potential sacks, including a strip fumble on Jones. Boogie Basham batted down a pass, and DJ Davidson made a notable run stop. In a two-minute drill, the offense scored against the defense in just three plays, including a deep sideline throw to Nabers, a pass to Hyatt, and a run by Jones. The second and third-team defenses won their two-minute drill battles. Jermain Eluemunor, recovering from bruised ribs, participated in team drills, sharing time with Josh Ezeudu at right tackle.
On Sunday, July 28, Theo Johnson was taken off the PUP list after passing his physical, following a hip injury. The Giants released quarterback Nathan Rourke, known as “Air Canada,” who is likely to return to the CFL after a brief stint in the NFL.
The Giants also signed cornerback Breon Borders, a 29-year-old undrafted player out of Duke.
On Sunday, July 28, the Giants shifted their focus to deep passes after spending much of camp on red zone drills. Dane Belton, Jason Pinnock, Darrian Beavers, and Cor’Dale Flott made notable plays to prevent completions, while rookie Dru Phillips nearly intercepted a pass for a potential pick-six. Kayvon Thibodeaux, Brian Burns, Jordan Phillips, Tomon Fox, Movie Oghoufo, Matthew Adams, and Benton Whitley applied consistent pressure throughout the day. Daniel Jones had a rough start but improved towards the end, completing significant throws to Nabers and Hyatt. Drew Lock also made some impressive throws to WR Isaiah McKenzie and TE Tyree Jackson.
The first day of padded practice on Monday, July 29, saw Matthew Adams arrive fully geared up, eager for the full-contact session. Before the padded drills, position groups reviewed safety protocols. In the one-on-one battles between offensive and defensive linemen, the O-line held its ground despite a drill that typically favors the defense. John Michael Schmitz was held out due to a shoulder issue, and Dexter Lawrence was absent due to illness. The highlight of these drills was the matchup between Brian Burns and Andrew Thomas. Aaron Stinnie stood out, winning all three of his battles. Elijah “Baby Bison” Chatman and Joshua Miles each won two battles, with Miles defeating Brian Burns once. Jordan Riley quickly won a battle with an inside swim move. Rookie CB Andru Phillips made some notable plays in the run game.
Wide receiver Darius Slayton acknowledged trade interest but chose to remain with the Giants.
Quarterback Tommy DeVito spoke candidly about his situation.
