Keeping the Main Things the Main Things Pt 5 - Good Communication When we communicate, there are two primary necessities: To Be Heard and To Be Understood. The task of each Christian here is to learn to speak about your relationship with Jesus in a way your friends can understand. “Even musical instruments like the flute or the harp, though they are lifeless, are examples of the need for speaking plain language. For no one will recognize the melody unless the notes are played clearly…And it’s the same for you. If you talk to people in a language they don’t understand, how will they know what you mean? Keeping the Main Things the Main Things in a New Year Part 1-Prayer We believe that our relationship with Christ can only be truly healthy when we are in daily communication with the Lord. We know that the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. We also believe that prayer is essential in knowing the mind of Christ, His guidance in our lives, in the confession of our sin, in keeping us from temptation, and in receiving both the Lord’s power and blessings in our lives and the life of our church. WHY IS DAILY PRAYER ESSENTIAL? Because God Supplies the Daily Bread I Need! “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. You can't control what people think about you, what they say about you, or what they do to you, but with God's help you can control how you respond. What is the Problem with Bitterness? BITTERNESS HAS A DANGEROUS ROOT See to it that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble. Today, I will examine my schedule and ask God to show me what matters to Him. I will build into my day extra margin…SPACE so I can live at a PACE that is without hurry and pleasing to Jesus. WHAT CATCHES THE HEART AND WHAT CATCHES THE EYE OF GOD— Commitment THE POWER OF COMMITMENT My Commitments: Show my values Shape my life Determine my destiny “The eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those who hearts are fully committed to Him.” 2 Chronicles 16:9 Every Commitment has a PRICE Luke 14:26 "If you want to be My followers you must love Me more than your own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, more than your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be My disciple." If Jesus Christ is not Lord of all of your life, He's not Lord at all in your life. C. S. Lewis, "If Christianity is untrue then it's unimportant." C. S. Lewis, "The only thing Christianity cannot be is moderately important." GIVE GOD THE FIRST THOUGHTS OF EACH DAY Psalm 5:3 says "Each morning I will look to You in heaven and lay my requests before You." GIVE GOD THE FIRST DAY OF EVERY WEEK Acts 20:7 "On the first day of the week, the disciples came together." GIVE GOD THE FIRST TEN PERCENT OF EVERY PAYCHECK Proverbs 3:9 "Honor the Lord by giving Him the first part of all your income." In gratitude for the past, to keep our priorities right in the present, and in faith for the future. Deuteronomy 14:23 "The purpose of tithing is to teach us to put God first in every area of our lives." GIVE GOD THE FIRST CONSIDERATION IN EVERY DECISION Proverbs 3:5-6, "In everything you do, put God first and He will direct you and crown your efforts with success." Romans 14:12 says "Don't be lazy in showing your devotion. Use your energy in serving the Lord." THE PAYOFF FOR COMMITMENT TO CHRIST "Do not worry, saying, `What shall we eat or drink or wear?' Your heavenly Father knows you need these. But seek first God's kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well."
