Keeping the Main Things the Main Things Pt 5 - Good Communication When we communicate, there are two primary necessities: To Be Heard and To Be Understood. The task of each Christian here is to learn to speak about your relationship with Jesus in a way your friends can understand. “Even musical instruments like the flute or the harp, though they are lifeless, are examples of the need for speaking plain language. For no one will recognize the melody unless the notes are played clearly…And it’s the same for you. If you talk to people in a language they don’t understand, how will they know what you mean? Keeping the Main Things the Main Things in a New Year Part 1-Prayer We believe that our relationship with Christ can only be truly healthy when we are in daily communication with the Lord. We know that the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. We also believe that prayer is essential in knowing the mind of Christ, His guidance in our lives, in the confession of our sin, in keeping us from temptation, and in receiving both the Lord’s power and blessings in our lives and the life of our church. WHY IS DAILY PRAYER ESSENTIAL? Because God Supplies the Daily Bread I Need! “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. God wants all people, in all places, at all times to come to know and experience His love for them in Jesus Christ. You can't control what people think about you, what they say about you, or what they do to you, but with God's help you can control how you respond. What is the Problem with Bitterness? They will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31 WHY DO I GET MORE FATIGUED THAN I SHOULD? I Carry What I Should Not Carry “You are going to wear yourself out and the people too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself.” Exodus 18:18 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. I Worry When I Should Not Worry “Give your cares to God because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? 28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Today, I will list everything I worry about and will confess that worry diminishes faith and belittles God. And today, I will place these worries in life into the hands of my loving, powerful God and will refuse to take these worries back. These are His to handle. Today, I will examine my schedule and ask God to show me what matters to Him. I will build into my day extra margin…SPACE so I can live at a PACE that is without hurry and pleasing to Jesus. Today, I will commit myself to weekly time away from my work and weekly time in relationship with the Lord. I will come to Him to find rest for my soul. I affirm my desire to no longer live in fatigue, but to begin to live in victory! Amen…
UNSTUCK: Failure 1. EVERY PERSON HAS SOME FAILURE Romans 3:23 “For everyone has sinned; we ALL fall short of God’s glorious standard.” 2. EVERY FAILURE HAS WITHIN IT A CHOICE I’m either going to allow this failure to be HURTFUL and get stuck OR I’m going to allow it to be HELPFUL and move forward How do we choose to let failure block us, stop us, hurt us more and keep us stuck? --remain in the shame “They felt no shame.” Genesis 2:25 “Suddenly they felt shame.” Genesis 3:7 “God, help me abandon my shameful ways.” Psalm 119:39 --try on our own power to overcome the failure “The wise are glad to be instructed, but babbling fools fall flat on their faces.” Proverbs 10:8 “Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18 “A dog returns to his vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness.” Proverbs 26:11 Choose The Blessing of the Lesson “And if you fail to learn the lesson and continue in hostility toward Me, says the Lord…” Leviticus 26:23 “To learn, you must love discipline; it is stupid to hate correction.” Proverbs 12:1 “Even though Jesus was God’s Son, He learned obedience from the things He suffered.” Hebrews 5:8 What’s the best choice after failure: LEARN THE LESSON AND MOVE ON “If you fail under pressure, your strength is too small.” Proverbs 24:10 1. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?
