Jesus Christ was tested by God in the wilderness. Tempted by the devil to turn stones into bread demonstrating that He was indeed the Son of God. Having fasted for 40 days, and though very hungry, yet He did not yield to the temptation! He indeed did fulfill all righteousness on our behalf.
The Church need not and must not pull away from the World and worldly systems of thought, but instead must engage the World with the truth of Jesus Christ. The World in enslaved to idols because they do not know the Lord. Intimidated and so often un-welcomed by the World we are quiet. Paul was not intimidated by the philosophers of his age but took the truth of Christ to them that they might know the Truth and be set free!…
"Anxiety in a man's heart weighs it down, but a good word makes it glad." - Proverbs 12:25We are commanded as the church to bear one another's burdens. Depression is a big problem, anxiety weighs us down. A good word, a true word, a timely word...speaking to one another Scriptural truth is one way we bear each other's burdens.…
John the Baptist was looked to as though he was the Messiah. He was not. He was a voice in the wilderness directing the attention of the masses to Jesus Christ. John could not save anyone, but he pointed them to Jesus Christ, Who alone can save. Will you listen to what John preached or will you discount his words because of who he denied being?…
Jesus Christ took on human flesh, becoming one of us in order that He might save His people. John the Baptist testified of Christ's eternality and His Supremacy. Christ came and fulfilled the Law of Moses doing what we could not do. Our God is a god of grace and truth.
How great was the love of Christ for His people? His love was so great that the infinite and eternal Word of God took on human flesh, He became one of us! He dwelt among His people, and His glory was on display. One so great, and yet One full of grace and truth! He is no ordinary man, but the God man!…
Intimidated by how "smart" the world is, many Christians shy away from witnessing to the World. The Apostle Paul was not intimidated by the philosophers of the day in Athens. Why? Because the Scriptures reveal the Truth of Who Christ is, of man's need, of reality. The World and it's philosophies cannot hold a candle to the Truth! Don't be afraid of Athens!…
The World and the Jews did not, do not, received Jesus Christ. Some would view this as a reason to reject Him themselves. But Jesus Christ is the true light, testified by John the Baptist and received by those whom the Lord sovereignly saves. Listen to the Word as it testifies about Jesus Christ, come to Him and be saved!…
"Once bitten, twice shy" is an expression used to describe the phenomenon of going through a particular hardship that causes us to be reticent of moving forward! Ministry is such a thing where a bad experience can cause us to not want to engage in the future. The unbelieving Jews in Thessalonica persecuted Paul and Silas, but their love does not grow cold for the Jews, rather they "soldier on" as good servants of the Lord Jesus telling them that their Messiah has come!…
"Jesus is my ticket to success, my example of what a good person is, was a wise and enlightened individual"...and so there are many ideas out in the world concerning who Jesus is. Are they right? The Apostle John does not let his readers invent some idea of who they think Jesus is, but starts off his Gospel with making it very plain that Jesus Christ is God...not a god, but God, who reveals to us who the Father is, and that He was with God in the beginning. Jesus has no beginning as He is not a creature, but has created all things. He alone is where life is found, and where there is life there is light. Who do you believe Jesus Christ is?…
Christ Jesus is not only all powerful, but He is also all merciful! Friends, don't be afraid to come to Christ in your desperation, don't let what you think you know of Him keep you from coming to Him. He is powerful to heal and merciful to receive you!
Christian take heed! It is not only your Pastor who will suffer for preaching the Gospel, but it is you the Christian in the pew who will also suffer for Christ, because you support those who are faithful too! Understand this so that you are not caught off guard when persecution comes to you too!
"You've got to sell yourself! Be confident! Believe in your abilities! You are worth it!" ... All the things our culture tells us to think about ourselves. The Lord is so different. If we are to be righteous before God, we must think realistically about ourselves. We must come before Him broken and emptied of ourselves. Only in Jesus Christ will we be made fit for Heaven.…
Gospel ministry is laborious work. We see the ethic at which the Apostle Paul went at it. He was tenacious and dedicated to helping people see the truth concerning Jesus Christ. We must do no less. Sometimes we will see great fruit from it. Oftentimes there will be a backlash to it! Persevere in the work of making Jesus Christ known.…
Pornography..."Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways, do not stray into her paths. For many are the victims she has cast down, and numerous are all her slain. Her house is the way to Sheol, descending to the chambers of death." - Proverbs 7:25-27
