22:42On the latest edition of the 'Director's Cut' I discuss the concept behind being a 'Culture Athlete'. In expanding upon my recent blog post discussing the power of mindset (http://www.velocitysp.com/norwood/articles?news_id=2843), I share 7 tips that each athlete can employ in order to help their team and coach develop a winning team culture. Not only do these tips lead to success on and off the field, but they can help an athlete really stand out from the crowd: Especially during try-outs. And the best part? They have nothing to do with how fast you can run or high you can jump. They are FREE to use and the best part is that anyone can use them in order to take their sporting potential to even greater heights!…

41:43On today's episode of the 'Director's Cut', I catch-up with one of the original contributors to the podcast, Head Coach Mike Sinicropi. We discuss Mike's unique coaching journey from working 15 hour days, volunteering and working for 'peanuts', to now overseeing entire Olympic programs including Alpine sports for Team USA and South Korea. In addiiton, Mike and I discuss the true definition of 'coaching' as well as the perceived value behind it: How many people out there actually assess the credentials and experience of their trainers or coaches? With gym memberships as low as $1 per month, it can be hard to assess the true value of quality coaching! However, there is a reason why a premium training service from an experienced coach like Mike should be seen as an investment, and like a fine wine, cheap is seldom better!…

27:50On this Episode of the 'Director's Cut', I interview Jennifer Hanway on the importance of 'Gut Health'. As Jenny explains, gut health is often the missing link between hard work in the gym and achieving the body people want. Even if training and nutrition are optimized, poor gut health can have a significantly negative impact upon achieving solid results, especially as they relate to lean muscle gain and fat-loss! Being a fitness and nutritionist professional that is currently taking the Boston scene by storm, Jenny has experience working with clients the world over, including members of the British Royal Family and actors on a certain HBO show involving Dragons! She has a successful line of classes, training services and online cookbooks, which can be found on her website www.jenniferhanway.com Enjoy our discussion on how to achieve the best possible health and performance gains through your gut!…

24:01On the latest edition of the 'Director's Cut', I am joined by Head Coaches Chris Rice and Velocity Adult Program Coordinator Steve Calarco, as we discuss 'Bear Crawl-Gate'. For those unfamiliar, here in the state of Massachusetts there was a recent story where head coaches from a few towns over were recently dismissed from their coaching roles over the use of bear crawls in their team's performance program. As such, the three of us decided to discuss this rather controversial news story, especially given the fact that bear-crawls are for many coaches, a staple of their sports performance programs. We discuss whether this benign exercise can really be the root cause of so much trouble, as well as the impact this story is having on the sports performance field at large.…
