"But it makes a lot of sense especially when you think about how traditional healers and shamans have worked, they haven't felt that separation from nature like Western medics do. And so to rely on the knowledge of other species actually makes a lot of sense. It's probably a lot more than we know at the moment." - Jaap de Roode Jaap de Roode is a biology professor at Emory University, and he is the author of an astonishing new book called Doctors by Nature How Ants, Apes, and Other Animals Heal Themselves . I say astonishing because I had no idea about so much of what he explores in his book. It never occured to me to consider that other species use medicine and have been healing themselves forever. Jaap tells stories of animals across nature, from bumblebees to chimpanzees, how they use plants and natural substances to treat infections, to ward off parasites, to self-medicate. There's so much that we have learned from them, and there's so much more that we still can.…

How does Tobias coach using games to reinforce invariants as well as develop skill with them as the foundation. Padwork - how effective does he feel it is. A few other tangents! Tobias' 3 invariant features are; Centre of Gravity Stable Structure Impacting Small Spaces These 3 areas are fascinating when considering what 'fundamentals' really are. You can reach Tobias on Instgram at Philosophy of Fighting…
If you watched Adam Azim's recent fight with Sergey Lipinets you may agree it was a blend of vicious punch picking and sometimes uncomfortable to watch yet elegant pugilism! But, what really took my eye is Azim's growing ability to apply his skills, his boxing IQ. So, I just had another mind dump around why i think he's an exceptional fighter. One we have only seen the tip of the ice berg of. We draw comparisons to 'The Boxing Model' course on the website and how his execution of these processes make him successful. Join or log in here .…
My friend Danny Hatcher told me, try not to think along the lines of right and wrong coaching, more on effective and less effective coaching. A scale. Today, as I'm stuck in traffic on the A27 just outside of Brighton, I have a mind dump on time effectiveness when we coach. Can we be more effective with our time especially in 'warm ups'. With reference to our resources on the website to challenge thinking on how to be more efficient. Join today at www.theboxgathering.com…

As one of the most recognised faces and voices in amateur boxing in England, today we have a massively indepth conversation with 'Dagger' Dan O'Sullivan. Many know Dan as the voice of the London 2012 Olympics and the Haringey Box Cup. But as we find out today, Dan's skills, responsibilities and motivation go far beyond the mic. We talk indepth about Dan's coaching career, his roles within Dagenham ABC, how the club has progressed over the years and the impact it continues to make in the local community. We go on to talk about his role as London's club support officer (CSO) as well as discussing England Boxing's 'Locker' system and how this will go on to support club's across the country as the sport moves rapidly in to the future. What can I say about this episode!?! Here goes... Adam Singer is an MMA coach for SBG Athens in Georgia, USA. A man who has coached world champion MMA athletes as well as help pioneer SBG (Straight Blast Gyms) all over the world. Adam has a wonderful mind which contemplates the aged old question, 'can we coach better?' We speak about the constraints based approach, traditional styles of coaching versus an ecological approach and then go on to tackle why MMA striking is different to boxing punching. A man who is passionate about learning who has not only considered what he does through a critical lens, but is implementing it to great effect, day in, day out. I hope you all enjoy this important conversation and take as much as I did away from it. This is great.…

Not only does he have a wealth of experience in competing in multiple combat sports but he is vastly qualified and knowledgeable in the field of concussions.
