The BeatiDudes complete their live recordings from the 2025 Dallas Catholic Youth Conference (DCYC) with moments of reflection and a powerful impromptu song. DCYC is an annual conference where high school students across the Diocese of Dallas gather for the weekend to encounter Jesus. This is the second visit to DCYC for BeatiDudes Paul Kolker, Nick Bezner, and Jeff Schiefelbein. The first guest is Adrian, who is at DCYC for the third time. The youngest of five kids, Adrian enjoys hearing the testimonies most when at the conference. He is a junior in high school and involved at St. Paul’s and St. Thomas Aquinas. The final guest of the conference is Mally Holleman, a former NET missionary and current sophomore at the University of Dallas. NET Ministries is a foundational program for young people to share their faith. NET stands for National Evangelization Teams, although it is truly international, as Mally’s first year with the team was spent in Scotland. Mally closes the show by surprising the Dudes with an a cappella performance of the song “Goodness of God.” Our Partners: Sock Religious (10% Discount) Solidarity HealthShare Aquinas Wealth Advisors On Fire Media Lucid Private Office Kevin's Course - Major Gift Millions MAX Studios Divine Comedy Undivided Life Follow The BeatiDudes: BeatiDudes Website LinkedIn Facebook Instagram Twitter Jeff Schiefelbein on LinkedIn BeatiDudes Theme Song and Music By The Pencil Bureau Dave Moore Music…
Coming at you from the Amen Corner of the 2025 Dallas Catholic Youth Conference (DCYC), Oscar Rivera joins the BeatiDudes at the traveling tiny table. As the emcee of DCYC, Oscar is the common thread between every speaker at the conference. A New York Mets and Las Vegas Raiders fan, Oscar Rivera was raised in the inner city of Waterbury, Connecticut, and was taught early on how to be a survivor. His method of avoiding the streets and its promises, became the art of Hip Hop (or Hip-Hop Rap if you’re Jeff). Oscar takes his knowledge of the faith and inspires youth and young adults through his music, talks, retreats, and personal testimony. His life has been devoted to the New Evangelization of the Gospel and his upbeat contemporary approach to the good news has made the message easy to understand, follow, and relate to. Christianity is not boring, and Oscar does not intend to be either. Oscar leaves Paul Kolker, Nick Bezner, and Jeff Schiefelbein with something powerful as he urges adults to wake up and show the youth that they have a purpose in the Church right now, not later. Steven Thomas, author of Catholic Joe: Superhero, is back with Paul Kolker, Nick Bezner, and Jeff Schiefelbein to talk about the beauty of marriage. After the sadness of his parents’ divorce when he was young, Steven’s heart was galvanized to fight for marriage. He has been married for 34 years and has eight living children. Steven wrote Catholic Joe: Superhero to show the beauty of marriage and make the Church more inviting. His advice for men, married or not, is to turn to St Joseph, follow the church teachings, and pray the family rosary. Catholic Joe is the first book in the series. Lieutenant General Joseph Salvatore, husband and father of a large family, is a man’s man. At age 48, he is still considered one of the deadliest men on the planet, able to kill an enemy with his bare hands and with the same hands tenderly caress his wife and children. Joe brings this same lethal intensity as he fights to save his youngest brother's marriage. In fighting for his brother, Joe, later deemed Catholic Joe by a reporter, uncovers corruption in the government and his church. During this bonus episode, The BeatiDudes and Steven Thomas declare that “thou shall consider every kid a miracle” before taking an unexpected call from a former BeatiDudes Super-Guest, Fr. Ken Geraci. Learn more about Catholic Joe: Superhero . Steven Thomas, author of Catholic Joe: Superhero, flew down to escape the chill of Chicago and enter the eleven-degree weather of Dallas. Steven “Stephen” Thomas came to kick it with the BeatiDudes in between writing sessions for the next book in the series. Steven Thomas is a serial entrepreneur who has started many culture-changing companies and apostolates. Steven was given the grace to complete Catholic Joe after walking across the country with a small group of men. They traversed over 4,500 grueling miles in the form of a cross over the US, praying for God’s mercy and favor on the country and the Church. Catholic Joe is the first book in the series. Bishop Greg Kelly, the newly installed 5th Bishop of the Diocese of Tyler, joins BeatiDudes Paul Kolker, Nick Bezner, and Jeff Schiefelbein again for this bonus episode about homilies. Bishop Greg Kelly was ordained to the priesthood in 1982. Throughout his life, he listened to many boring homilies, and he longed to deliver something better. When the Institute for Homiletics opened its doors in Dallas in 2021, Bishop Kelly was among the first to enroll. The Institute for Homiletics, a collaboration between the University of Dallas and the Catholic Foundation, was founded to renew preaching in the Catholic Church. The Institute believes that preaching should bring the people of God into an encounter with the living God. Likewise, the Institute for Religiously Funny Podcasts has blessed the work of The BeatiDudes for successfully combining humor and holiness in every episode of the show. The 5th Bishop of the Diocese of Tyler and longtime friend of The BeatiDudes, Bishop Greg Kelly, joined the BeatiDudes just weeks before his installation to share his gratitude, joy, and excitement. His focus included a message of timeless wisdom to always find Christ and keep our eyes on Him. Bishop Greg Kelly is a native of Iowa and grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1976, he arrived in Dallas. He studied for the priesthood in Holy Trinity Seminary at the University of Dallas in Irving and was ordained to the priesthood in 1982. He served as parochial vicar at All Saints in Dallas, Chaplain at the University of Dallas in Irving, and pastor at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish in McKinney. He was ordained as auxiliary bishop of Dallas on February 11, 2016, and resided at Holy Trinity Seminary in Irving. In December 2024, Bishop Greg Kelly received word that Pope Francis wanted him to be the Bishop of the Diocese of Tyler, only 100 miles East of Dallas. When he received this news, he responded, “If the Holy Father wants me to do this, then that’s what I’ll do.” Bishop Kelly was installed as the 5th Bishop of the Diocese of Tyler on February 24th, 2025, the 30th anniversary of the diocese's inauguration. There is no better guest to serve as the start of BeatiDudes Season 5 than the 5th Bishop of Tyler. Join Paul Kolker, Nick Bezner, and Jeff Schiefelbein in celebrating this exciting time for the Church and praying for Bishop Kelly’s new flock. Do you believe in miracles? Dr. Robert Collins joins Paul Kolker, Nick Bezner, and Jeff Schiefelbein for miracle stories found at the intersection of prayer and medicine. Dr. Robert experienced the power of prayer when his son had major surgery on a tumor that was on his spine. Inspired and supported by past patients and faithful friends, Dr. Collins and his wife felt a cloud of prayers as they waited through their son’s procedure. Healing is much broader than we could ever imagine, so be sure that your work is always under the influence of prayer. Robert H. Collins Jr., M.D., FACP, is a Professor of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Hematology and Oncology. He serves as Director of the Hematologic Malignancies and Cellular Therapy Program and the Combined Adult/Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Program. A recognized leader in the field of adoptive immunotherapy and molecular-targeted therapy, Dr. Collins specializes in hematologic malignancies, including leukemia, lymphoma, and myelodysplastic syndrome. Dr. Collins earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. He completed an internal medicine residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, as well as a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of California Los Angeles. Robert H. Collins Jr., M.D., FACP, is a Professor of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Hematology and Oncology, joins the BeatiDudes, a highly qualified group of businessists and improvasationalsts. How appropriate that this episode was recorded on the World Day of Healing as Dr. Collins shares how his patients healed his faith. The youngest and only boy of four siblings, Dr. Collins grew up in St. Louis. Raised Baptist, Dr. Collins began questioning Christianity and left his faith completely as a teenager. Dr. Collins completed a six-year medical school program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City before meeting his wife, Lynn, in Texas while at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Early in his career, Dr. Collins served his patients well but mentally viewed them as cases. Then, as he continued expanding his knowledge of medicine and science, he thought, “Isn’t this just a little too amazing to have just happened?” This moment changed his life, and it put him on a new path of exploration and research. Being guided by the Holy Spirit, he read his way to Christianity and experienced his way to Catholicism. He was affected by his patients and the books he was reading, including Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. Paul Kolker, Nick Bezner, Jeff Schiefelbein, and Dr. Robert Collins end the show by testing their knowledge in a quiz of medical terms versus made-up terms. Robert H. Matthew Zeik is a 5th-grade teacher at The Highlands School in Irving, Texas, where six of the BeatiDudes’ kids attend. Mr. Zeik takes his spot at the tiny table during Catholic Schools Week to share his love for teaching and his unique pathway to get there. After entering a minor seminary at thirteen years old, Mr. Zeik spent more than half his life pursuing a religious vocation before discerning his exit. During his time at the seminary, he had the opportunity to work in schools, and he loved it. He discovered his passion for Catholic education and decided to pursue teaching. Twenty years later, he still teaches with the same enthusiasm and spark as when he started. Mr. Zeik grew up in St. Louis and is the second oldest of eleven kids. After meeting his wife, Estela, the couple moved to Naples, Florida for work. Several kids and a move to California later, they finally made their way to Texas. Being an equal distance away from family in Mexico and St. Louis makes Dallas the perfect home for their family during this chapter of life. The show finishes with a great game of “Are you smarter than a 5th grader?” so grab a pen and play along with Paul Kolker, Nick Bezner, Jeff Schiefelbein, and Mr. Matthew Zeik.
