If you've been tuning into the podcast recently, you've likely noticed that I've been doing things a little bit differently. I have been sharing some of my most favorite and powerful tools, frameworks, and coaching distinctions that I use with my clients and myself as I've been sitting with the despair, grief, and fear of what's going on in my own country and cultures around the world. This week is no different – I want to share what can support you in a changing and unpredictable job market and periods of transition in your career, whether you’re at a place of wanting to finally leave the nine to five and pursue your own entrepreneurial dream, whether you have been laid off in this current job market, whether you've been fired, or whether you've chosen to see yourself out. These tools and exercises that I'm sharing with you today have been some of the most impactful for my clients in navigating periods of transition in the job market with intentionality, with purposefulness and with integrity. I hope you find today's episode not only useful but as a tool to bring you a bit of peace and direction. Topics: Navigating the fear and powerlessness that can feel pervasive in our country and a reminder of how to shift from feeling a sense of victim consciousness to a mindset that will leave you feeling more empowered Distinguishing the difference and overlap between your personal purpose and your professional work and how this can help you navigate the job market How to leverage your empathetic qualities as professional advantages and other tools to take into the job market as an empath Two different paths that will help you uncover your core values and help set you apart in the job market by allowing your authenticity and integrity to shine How to apply your core values and purpose when networking and when searching for which jobs to apply to Episode Resources: The Answer to How is Yes by Peter Block Listen: The Four States of Consciousness Nicholas Janni Brené Brown’s Dare to Lead Program Give and Take by Adam Grant Belonging: Overcome Your Inner Critic and Reclaim Your Joy Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. I've been reflecting a lot over the past week on how challenging it is to be a human being right now, given the state of the world, given the state of the political climate, given the emotional angst and grief and pain and fear that is so pervasive. It is challenging to be ourselves, to be embodied, to embrace our own emotional interiors, and for us empaths – who over index on feeling – that much more difficult. However, I do believe that one of the most radical acts we can take right now is to embrace our own humanity, to embrace being a human being, rather than a human doing.Throughout this episode I’ll be sharing 12 truths that will help you protect your heart from calcifying and commit to thrive rather than survive as an empath. Topics: How emotional exhaustion, burnout, and fear can calcify our hearts, making it difficult to stay open, compassionate, and engaged in activism and daily life Learning to set boundaries, say no, and protect our emotional energy for sustained activism and personal well-being How embracing joy, love, and presence is a radical and necessary act of resistance in overcoming fear How to be intentional about where we invest our time, emotions, and compassion, understanding that we cannot be everything to everyone The different ways that lovelessness fuels consumerism and fear and choosing love and care instead to protect our health and our humanity Episode Resources: Daniel Hunter and Choose Democracy Adam Grant Wintering by Katherine May All About Love by Bell Hooks Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. I've been thinking a lot about a term that I referenced on the last podcast episode (listen in if you haven’t), this idea that we are currently living in a VUCA world—volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous and for empaths in particular, it can be incredibly challenging to feel grounded, centered, and connected with our higher self in this reality. So today on the podcast, I want to share with you a framework grounded in teachings by Michael Beckwith that has fundamentally supported my clients and myself in changing the way we look at things so that the things we look at change—The Four States of Consciousness. My hope is that today's conversation can provide a little bit more inspiration, peace, self compassion, acceptance and empowerment to support you in changing the way you might be looking currently at the things that are going on in our world. Topics: Seeing life as something that happens to you, often leading to blame, fear, and a sense of powerlessness and how to move out of the state of “victim” consciousness Finding empowerment by taking radical responsibility for one’s experiences, leading to intentional action and personal growth Moving beyond personal control to allow your intuition to work through you, leading to a state of flow and co-creation with the universe. Welcome back, today I want to talk about some ways that we as empathpreneurs and leaders can set ourselves up to thrive in a world that is feeling increasingly chaotic and unsafe for so many. As empaths are uniquely motivated by impact and mission, now more than ever, we need to be committed to thriving—not surviving. I think that leading with heart, learning how to make continued strategic decisions in the face of uncertain times in this VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity) world that we're facing is the key to creating lasting positive change. Topics Discussed: Learning to respond to our own emotions with curiosity, permission, and honesty rather than trying to hide or “fix” our feelings Why we have to learn to accept our current reality so we can get connected with our higher purpose and the difference that we want to make Why self-care and self-preservation are non-negotiable business strategies in order to connect with your intuition and creativity Breaking free from Internalized Capitalism and leaning into Conscious Capitalism instead Episode Resources: Read: Internalized Capitalism and Four Conscious Ways to Combat it Listen: The Power of Rest and Resistance for HSPs Listen: The Power of a Morning Routine The Art of Gathering by Priya Parker Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. I’m currently spending a lot of time supporting my 5.5 month old in learning how to sleep in his crib, and what I've noticed is sleep seems to be something that moms lack, and oftentimes first time or seasoned entrepreneurs lack as well. This thought is exactly what I want to talk about in today's episode – the overlaps between parenting and empathpreneurship. So many of my skill sets and the lessons I've learned over the past decade as an entrepreneur, have helped me being the older first time mama that I am. However, I recognize that there's so much to learn and work through and it can be incredibly overwhelming, but it’s not something you ever have to do alone. So, listen in to hear the most common overlaps and struggles along with some practical tips to help you manage both effectively, and hopefully get a little bit more sleep in the process! Topics: How learning to be adaptable and lean into self-trust has saved Catherine the past few months and allowed to lead with her heart and listen to her intuition Focusing on managing yourself and your energy levels rather than trying to master “time management” and how Catherine has learned this from motherhood and especially podcasting Developing and innovating your own rulebook as a parent instead of trying to follow someone else’s to find more joy and creativity in parenthood Becoming a team player as an entrepreneur and a parent while learning to be vulnerable, ask for support, and improve openhearted communication Episode Resources: Ground Yourself in 2025: Choosing a Word of the Year Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. In my work, I have found that it is particularly hard for empathpreneurs to embrace change, to close their businesses, to open new ones, to chart new courses in their careers, to change directions, to end business partnerships, and more. So I wanted to record this episode on embracing change because I think so many of us are in a period of change right now—which as a heart-centered entrepreneur isn’t always easy because we are emotionally invested and care so deeply. But it’s okay to allow our businesses and ideas to evolve as we do. Listen in to learn how to trust yourself in order to lean into transition with more confidence. Topics: How to embrace the part of ourselves that is afraid while also nurturing the part of us that feels excited for change Discerning the difference between our inner resistance to change and our intuitive inner knowing and then allowing ourselves to sit in the liminal space How to overcome fear and the sense of doubt to reframe that uncertainty and actually move forward Being mindful of our people pleasing and our need for external validation as empaths because they create resistance to change Practices you can use to trust your transition and lean into it with ease and grace Episode Resources: Yung Pueblo Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. Welcome back The Prosperous Empath®! Since it’s still January when this episode airs, I wanted to talk about a new and refreshing perspective for you to consider as you reflect on your goals and your visions for the new year. My intention is that today's episode will guide you into action, because I think that for many of us, goal setting can be so overwhelming–and there’s a reason for this! If you live in the northern hemisphere, it’s still winter, and energetically for empaths, this season is often not a natural or aligned place to be exerting ourselves and feeling energized and resourced to be jumping into goals. Instead, we should focus on ritualizing our lives to create new habit loops while stepping into the identity that is in alignment with our new level of success. Find out how by tuning into the full episode. Topics: What it looks like to live cyclically with the seasons and why January is actually not the best time to set goals or to launch something new in business Remembering that pressure does not equal performance and why it’s important to focus on creating systems rather than goals How to design your environment for success in 2025 so that it matches the new experience you are calling to life Mastering the art of consistently showing up to create a new habit loop and reinforce the identity you’re working to create Episode Resources: Wintering by Katherine May Atomic Habits by James Clear Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. If you’re listening in real time, happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and were able to fill it with the people and things that are meaningful for you. The first episode of the year is one of my favorites to record because it’s the episode in which I share my word of the year. Having a word of the year has consistently served as such an empowering practice for me, for grounding and for calling in a new experience or a way of being that I want to cultivate in the new year. Another thing that I love about a word of the year rather than resolutions is that it focuses on being instead of doing – which is something that can be so restorative for empathprenuers. With that, I’m excited to reflect back on 2024 and what my word of the year made possible as well as my word for the upcoming year. I hope this episode encourages you to take the time to reflect and declare your own word. May your 2025 be prosperous, and may it be filled with purposefulness. Topics: Looking back at Catherine’s word of the year for 2024, simplicity, and where she was able to fulfill it, plus how it prepared her for becoming a mom Grounding yourself in the now and recognizing that the quality of your presence in business and in life is everything The evolution of Catherine’s own love languages and why now more than ever, quality time feels the most important to her Catherine’s suggestion if you’re feeling rushed, harried, or lonely as you move into the new year Episode Resources: Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence Consolations: The Solace, Nourishment and Underlying Meaning of Everyday Words My Word for 2023 Choosing A Word of the Year with Rebecca Arnold and Rebecca Eller-Molitas Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. I’m delighted to have Sarah St. John on the show today, who’s past podcast, The Uncensored Empath, was a source of inspiration for my own. Along with being a podcast host, Sarah is the founder of Empath School, an author, a somatic coach, and creator of Become an Empath Coach™ certification. Throughout the episode, she shares how personal health challenges, becoming a mom, and other instances of grief led her to retire her podcast (despite its success) to take the time to redefine her own identity and focus. Sarah is trained in somatic healing, neuro linguistic programming, emotional freedom technique, yoga, meditation, and more and she shares how these modalities have helped her heal and reconnect with her body while embracing the messiness of liminal spaces so many of us often find ourselves in. She believes that empaths are uniquely wired to be potent healers, as you listen in you’ll see why. I appreciate Sarah’s openness throughout the whole episode and if you’re on your own personal journey of healing, I think you will too. Topics: Knowing when it’s time to close a chapter in your life and how to make that change without chaos and breakdown The interconnectedness of being an empath and experiencing grief and trauma and why Sarah has become so dedicated to healing of these layers How the parentification of children can lead to hyper-responsibility, hyper-vigilance, masking sensitivity, and ultimately becoming an empath Why it is important for empaths to learn how to be in their body to feel their own emotions and feelings to reconnect with their own humanity What nervous system work can look and feel like as an empath who is desiring to make a change around how they manage their lived experience Sarah’s experience with brushing up against death and how this has pushed her to be intentional with creating a legacy and embodying her beliefs Episode Resources: MotherGrief Connect with Sarah: Website Instagram Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. Something that I really appreciate about thriving and having it all as an empathpreneur, is that we get to create our business around the lifestyle that we're committed to. For me recently, that has looked like creating more spaciousness and more free time in my schedule to be with my son, while also re-evaluating my business through the lens of what's enough. This has opened up so much more joy and peacefulness in my everyday life and I am loving every moment of it. So with that, I'm delighted to have Anne Rajoo, a Peaceful Productivity Mentor, on the show today. Anne owns a boutique VA agency and is a two time graduate of our Emerge Mastermind, and she's someone who I appreciate and find a lot of peace in her presence. I hope you enjoy today's episode with someone who truly embodies what they stand for in business and is committed to continually reinventing her own experience of peaceful productivity as she supports her clients in doing the same. Topics: How Anne maintains peace and balance when she’s in the midst of the harder moments of entrepreneurship and life and how she defines productivity Anne’s experience of moving from a very productivity-centered Germany to the slower island life of Mauritius and charting this new course that was never modeled for her How holding your own boundaries and expectations can not only open opportunities and communication for yourself, but show others what is possible, too Learning to prioritize your greatest commitments and what you enjoy the most in work and then outsourcing the rest to grow a scalable business Practices that you can start now to cultivate peaceful productivity in your own business and why Anne believes “making the ask” can be the most impactful Episode Resources: Do Nothing by Celeste Headlee Connect with Anne: Website Facebook Instagram LinkedIn Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. I am so delighted to have one of my team members join me to share all about podcasting today. Haley is the founder of Heart Centered Podcasting, and she not only helped me launch my own podcast back in 2022 but she has produced every single episode of the podcast ever since. I can't tell you how many conversations I have with clients and colleagues around giving themselves permission to take up more space and own their own authentic voice and message. As empaths and heart centered individuals, we are so practiced in contributing and being focused on the other, on serving, and on wanting to contribute that we often don't give ourselves permission to connect with our message, to connect with what's the most important thing for us to say, to connect with the legacy we want to build, and to share it powerfully and in a compelling manner. Working with Haley has been all about that for me, and that's a little bit about why I wanted to have her on the show today, because I think that in the wake of the 2024 election, we need to hear the voices and the messages of empathpreneurs even more often – we need to hear them take up more space, and to do so in a more compelling and empowered way. Haley has been that partner and accountability structure for me to do so and I'm excited to have her on the show today to share some of her wisdom with you. Topics: The top three mindset blocks Haley sees with her podcasting clients – analysis paralysis, Imposter Syndrome, and perfectionism, and how to overcome them The difference between a bridge burner and bridge builder and when you may find yourself in both scenarios as an entrepreneur How becoming a mom of two has influenced the way Haley has shown up as the CEO of her business and how she’s thoughtfully scaled over time The importance of naming your feelings to stop the spiral as well as knowing how to separate your sense of self and worth from the outcomes of your business The biggest lesson of Haley’s journey as a mom that has supported her in being a better business owner and vice versa Connect with Haley: Instagram: @Heart Centered Podcasting LinkedIn Website Launch with Heart: DIY Podcast Launch Course Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. I'm recording today's episode on my first full week of work back in the office after my maternity leave. Life feels so full, joyful and different than when I was here prior to having Micah. So I'm excited to bring many new insights and life and business lessons to you as I rebrand the podcast a little and share a bit about what we're celebrating today on this episode and what you can expect going forward. As you tune in, we’re in the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election here in the States. I’ve got a heavy heart, but a renewed importance to share my message and take up more space as a woman, as an entrepreneur, and as someone who's committed to living and honoring my values, both in and out of my business. I have been looking forward to recording this episode and celebrating the crap out of reaching 100 episodes with you, my beautiful listeners. Whether you’re newer here or if you've been here from the beginning, thank you so much. Topics: Why Catherine believes that 100 episodes of the podcast wasn’t exactly predictable as an empath who prefers listening rather than doing the talking Lessons that Catherine learned from feeling resistance, especially around the production of the podcast, and how you can apply them to your own business How the podcast has helped Catherine remain connected to her why and improve the communication of the message she hopes to share with empathpreneurs Remembering that prosperity is more than simply the numbers and how this thought will impact the podcast moving forward Episode Resources: The War of Art Listen: Becoming an Embodied Feminine Leader with Isabelle Griffith Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. If you haven't already tuned into last week's episode, do that now! I shared a recap episode of how life and business have gone over the past year, what our pregnancy journey has been like, and some of the lessons learned in life and business. If you’re new here, I want you to know that these episodes are a little more personal than what I customarily share on the podcast, but this is a huge part of my life now, and becoming a mom has been a huge yearning, a huge goal, and a huge dream that I've held for myself for so long that I couldn't not share it. Moving forward, I will be sharing a lot more about parenting and some of the wisdom I learn along the way and how parenting applies to business and being a Prosperous Empath® and and vice versa. Now today, I am so excited to share my birth story with you, some of the lessons we've learned (again), a look at what maternity leave has been like – what has surprised me and delighted me and what has felt really challenging. It feels really vulnerable and special to share this, I hope that you can use a bit of it to connect with whatever transition you may find yourself in. Topics: How Catherine held her vision for her ideal labor while also detaching herself from the outcome and the need to control every aspect The structures that Catherine had planned for during her birth that helped her feel empowered and even be reflective during the process The moments through her labor that Catherine was really thankful for all of the lessons and growth from being an empathpreneur Different ways Catherine has made the transition from the hospital to maternity leave to dipping back into work feel very easy Surprising decisions that Catherine (and her husband) have made postpartum from welcoming in family to choosing to cosleep Final thoughts on the lessons learned about owning your desires, detaching from outcomes, and allowing yourself to be celebrated Episode Resources: Mount Auburn Center for Women Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. I’m back! This is the first episode I’ve recorded since becoming a mom, so today’s episode may be a bit more personal than business; however, as you know, the two often spill over into each other. Throughout this episode, I want to share what life looked like a year ago for me because it was radically different than it is today. I also want to speak on some of the lessons that I’ve learned through not only trying to get pregnant, but pregnancy itself. I am so grateful to be welcoming a baby into the world at this point in my life with the knowledge, support, experience, preparation, and financial stability that I have – but even with all of that there’s been so many new things to learn. At the end of the day, I have a newfound appreciation and respect for the mamas who are also entrepreneurs. I hope you enjoy this episode and then tune in next week when I go a little bit deeper into my actual birth story. Topics: What Catherine’s life looked like a year ago – not being pregnant, trying to find a home to buy, and other transitions and how she learned to lean into discomfort The challenges that Catherine faced when it came to embracing the unknown and trusting the process before she could make the mental space to welcome a baby into the world Understanding that surrender and the ability to welcome change is the key to easefully shifting from one season to the next How pregnancy has taught Catherine to let go of the rigidity and rigor that she has historically used when it comes to accomplishing her goals Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. Last month, we released a mini series called The Prosperous Empath’s Edge, and we released the first two episodes in a three part mini series all about the key strategies and tactics that distinguish between the Empathpreneurs who succeed in business and the ones who don't. It was such a joy recording those first two episodes because the lessons feel so familiar and relevant. They're ones that have been a deep part of my own journey over the past decade in business, and there are themes and topics that come up over and over again in conversations with clients. So in today's episode, we're going to round out the third and final part of that mini series by talking about the key qualities that distinguish givers and takers in leadership, in business and in life. For a little context before you listen, I do not believe that givers do business the right way and takers do business in the wrong way. I think that both givers and takers have both positive and limiting aspects of how we operate in business, but as we become more self aware, not only of our own tendencies and our own default habits and ways of engaging in business, but also what to look out for in the people that we typically tend to attract in business and in relationships, we can set ourselves up for creating mutually beneficial relationships. I hope this episode serves as a good starting place for you in doing so! Topics: What it looks like when a giver wins and why people often root for the success of givers rather than that of takers The differences in motivation and communication styles betweens givers and takers and why it can be really supportive, as a giver, to look through the lens of “me” first How as givers, we’re inclined to see the potential in others and why Catherine believes this is why many coaches are givers rather than takers The idea that givers are more naturally receptive to the expertise of other people, even if it challenges their own beliefs or knowledge and why it’s important to be aware of this How to express vulnerability in a way that is authentic and human without making it seem like a weakness Adam Grant’s concept of "other-ish" givers versus "selfless" givers and how it determines who does and doesn’t succeed How givers can become less susceptible to the “doormat effect” by trusting more deeply our own inherent nature of being able to sense others’ intentions and sincerity Episode Resources: Adam Grant Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. I’m beyond honored to have Bob Conlin and Alex Terranova, co-founders of The Alchemy of Men, on the show today. In their work, they’ve created a community and path to support men in discovering their authentic selves, evolving from boys to men, becoming more self-expressed, and building lives they can be proud of. Alex, Bob, and I used to be leaders together in Accomplishment Coaching, where we all individually trained as coaches together, served in different roles, and partnered in many different ways. We have a lot of experience knowing one another in multiple capacities, and I hope this is evident throughout the episode. I ask them a lot of deep questions about their work as it’s so important and needed in today’s world. In their work, Alex and Bob are cracking the door open for men to show them what is possible if they can tear down their walls. They know that getting men to show up to their retreats is the hardest part – because they have found that once they are there, it’s easy for the facades to fade and allow a new version of masculinity to appear. I can’t wait for you to tune in and find your own favorite takeaways. Topics: Believing that we get to choose who we are and how we see the world, and for men, trusting that the definition of traditional masculinity can be changed and improved upon The transformation that Alex and Bob themselves have gone through, how it’s impacted their own friendship, and the lessons they now take into their work with their clients How Alex and Bob support their clients in facilitating breakthroughs in their lives, knocking down walls, and opening their hearts during their retreats, especially as it’s brand new territory for most The power of letting go of your ego and surrendering to what you don’t know, and why it’s probably easier than you believe it is Letting go of everything you may think about what it means to be a man to create the space for reinvention and undoing to flow through How we can create safe space in supporting our partners to ask for help, create an equal relationship, and rewrite the norms of power dynamics Episode Resources: Join us on Monday, July 15th at 12pm ET for our monthly Non-Networking Power Hour for Empathpreneurs with our UNBOUNDED Community for deep connections and meaningful support. If you’ve historically found it challenging to express yourself powerfully as an empath, this episode of The Prosperous Empath® is for you. Dr. Susan Laverick is a sought-after communications consultant with a background spanning Citigroup and the BBC in London to the international sector of Geneva. She trains peacebuilders, NGOs and future leaders to become effective communicators and speak with gravitas. Do you feel that you have a lot to say but find it difficult to figure out how to actually articulate your thoughts (or believe that your message is worth sharing)? By the end of this episode, you’ll feel motivated to embody who you are and communicate your essence with conviction so you can have a deeper impact on your community and become a better leader. Topics: Susan’s story of reinventing herself after unexpectedly losing a career - harnessing her love of language, leading to a doctorate in English, and eventually establishing a Geneva-based communications consultancy for the peacebuilding and NGO sectors. If you had a month off of work, what would you do? Maybe you’d take the opportunity to work on your side business to increase your income to possibly leave your 9-5. Maybe you’d focus solely on healing your nervous system from endless burnout. The opportunities are endless – enter mini-retirements. Over the past 20 years, Jillian Johnsrud and her husband have taken a dozen mini-retirements while also paying off their debt, buying a home with cash, adopting four kids (and having two biological kids), buying rentals, traveling to 27 countries, and living abroad. In our conversation today on The Prosperous Empath® Podcast, she shares what exactly a mini-retirement is, how they can serve as a catalyst for major change, and how she helps her clients prepare for them. When you listen all the way through, you’ll feel like your biggest desires and dreams are that much more accessible (with action steps to make them happen). Topics: How Jillian defines a “mini-retirement” and how this can look whether you work in a 9-5 job, or if you’re a business owner The different ways a mini-retirement can give you a runway to imagine new possibilities, heal from burnout, and buy back time How Jillian supports her clients in preparing for a mini-retirement, especially around the feeling of time and energy scarcity Being comfortable with sitting in the space or void to reconnect with what you want to design on purpose The four steps of considering a mini-retirement: set an intention, negotiate employment, create a budget, navigate burnout Episode Resources: Join us on Monday, July 15th at 12pm ET for our monthly Non-Networking Power Hour for Empathpreneurs with our UNBOUNDED Community for deep connections and meaningful support. If you often struggle with trusting yourself and taking risks in entrepreneurship, you’re going to take away a lot from this week’s episode of the Prosperous Empath®. I’m sitting down with Lindsey Epperly, CEO of Jetset World Travel which she has scaled from a one-person operation into a team of over 90 dedicated members in the unlikeliest of times - the COVID-19 pandemic. When the world shut down in March 2020, Lindsey was 5 months pregnant with her first child and her husband had recently quit his job in finance to integrate into her business. As travel restrictions were being put into place, Lindsey had to choose between betting on herself or succumbing to fear and uncertainty. I’m honored to have someone who I care deeply about on the podcast today, Matt Maxwell. He is dedicated to freedom, joy, connection, and stewardship of the earth. Beyond that, Matt is also the author of How to Hold a Cockroach and leads Hearthstone Coaching, where he helps individuals, teams, and organizations clarify and create what matters most to them. At the time of recording, Matt joined me from his car as he’s traveling across the country to move back home to have more support from his family as he navigates the effects of long COVID. Throughout our conversation, we touch on holding grief, giving ourselves the permission to receive, and how Matt is gracefully and intentionally coming to terms with his new reality. If you’ve listened to my past solo episode on receiving and the recent episode with Jenn Andreou on embracing grief, Matt’s episode will feel like a big picture moment on how the two are interconnected and aligned. If you’re in a period of transition, especially if it’s one that’s hard to grapple with, I hope you find some relief in this episode. Topics: Matt’s experience with long COVID, what it looks like for him and others, and how this has been the catalyst for a major pivot in his life and business The idea of breaking free from “stupid” to allow ourselves to freely and confidently try new things How Matt has learned to hold grace for himself and surrender who he was before COVID to come to terms with his life now Learning to receive more in life while honoring the way we can be of service, companionship, and partnership to other people How Matt has learned to redefine success and find a new way of working with his new cognitive threshold More on Matt’s book, How to Hold a Cockroach, and the lessons on fear and the stories we tell ourselves Matt’s guidance for helping others through chronic illness or holding their own cockroach Episode Resources: Join us on Monday, June 10th at 12pm ET for our monthly Non-Networking Power Hour for Empathpreneurs with our UNBOUNDED Community for deep connections and meaningful support. Trigger warning: This episode may contain triggering content for some listeners affected by child loss; please review the show notes to know if this episode is proper for you now. As an empath, it can often feel like we’re living in a world that’s grieving hardship and heartbreak. This is why I’m grateful to sit down with Jenn Andreou, an Actualized Living Coach and Grief Recovery Method Specialist. In her work, Jenn helps grievers who feel stuck in the pain of their losses to move through grief and take action to regain their wellbeing. Throughout the episode, we talk about living with grief and allowing yourself to feel pain, sadness, and sorrow instead of fixing or bypassing them. After living through two tragic losses, it took Jenn seventeen years to truly begin to heal and find her way back to joy. Why? Because while grief is emotional, we as a society often intellectualize it and don’t allow ourselves to truly embrace and process our feelings. Jenn joins me for a heartfelt discussion on taking action (not the kind you may think), becoming more honest with yourself, and embracing the idea that it’s okay for things to not always be good so you can heal and move forward. Topics: How to use the Grief Recovery Method to embrace and process grief instead of waiting for time to heal your wounds Uncovering the fact that society discourages us from feeling bad and normalizing the idea that it’s okay to not always be okay How to make grief a more welcomed topic in your community and practice bringing curiosity instead of knowing, fixing or bypassing The simple ways in which you can become disconnected from yourself and how to connect more routinely with your inner world Insights on how to help your loved ones grieve and become a heart with ears Episode Resources: Join us on Monday, June 10th at 12pm ET for our monthly Non-Networking Power Hour for Empathpreneurs with our UNBOUNDED Community for deep connections and meaningful support. In this episode of the Prosperous Empath®, I’m jumping back into the mini-series on mindset blocks and obstacles that empaths and HSPs often struggle with on their entrepreneurial and leadership journeys. By nature, empaths are often people-pleasers and permission seekers. We tend to ask other people for their blessing before we make big decisions and even tame our dreams when they make our loved ones uncomfortable. In this conversation, I’m sharing insights and practical strategies on how to cultivate self-trust and start enrolling others into your vision instead of asking for their permission so you can own the full expression of your desires and dream bigger. Topics: Catherine’s journey with permission-seeking and how she cultivated breakthroughs and self-trust How to own your potential and start trusting yourself without having proof or guarantees that you’ll achieve your vision How to make choices for yourself based on where you desire to be and speak from that place of already knowing who you’re capable of becoming Enrolling others into your vision and how to start seeking participation instead of permission Episode Resources: Join us on Monday, June 10th at 12pm ET for our monthly Non-Networking Power Hour for Empathpreneurs with our UNBOUNDED Community for deep connections and meaningful support. I am putting a brief pause on the series on challenges that empaths and HSPs often face this week to bring you a special, emotional & deeply personal episode. I’ve just returned from a spending over the last two weeks in Europe celebrating a milestone birthday - I just turned 40! I’m also officially more than halfway through my pregnancy, and it feels like a beautiful moment to pause and honor all of the becoming that it has taken me to get to this point in life. So, I decided to write a love letter to the baby in my belly to honor the version of me I am today and what I hope for them. Somehow, it also ended up being a love letter to myself and all of YOU as I reflect on learning important life lessons, finding answers to some big questions, and learning to deeply love myself along the way. I hope you find something meaningful and of value for yourself in this vulnerable episode! Topics: Catherine’s reflections on turning 40 and getting ready to welcome her baby this fall Learning to love yourself for being you vs. basing your value on your accomplishments and what you do for other people The importance of finding the answers to big questions such as “What do I want?” and “What do I love?” Essential mindset shifts Catherine has learned over her journey & what she wants to pass down to her child and you Episode Resources: Join us on May 13th at 12pm ET for our monthly Non-Networking Power Hour for Empath Entrepreneurs with our UNBOUNDED Community for deep connections and meaningful support. In this episode of the Prosperous Empath® Podcast, I’m continuing the series on challenges that empaths and HSPs often struggle with and sharing practices, mindset shifts, and tips on how to overcome them. The topic of this episode - expanding your capacity to receive - has been one of the greatest transformations for me over the last decade and it’s something I routinely explore with clients. In life, there is an inherent polarity between givers and takers, and the majority of empaths and HSPs overidentify as givers. There are amazing benefits to being a talented giver (which is why many empaths thrive as service providers), but it can also be hard to allow yourself to receive and have your needs met, whether it’s in business partnerships or romantic relationships, to name just a few. In this episode, you’ll learn why empaths often struggle with giving too much of themselves, the consequences of this tendency, and how to nurture your ability to receive more and better. Topics: Catherine’s personal experience with expanding her capacity to receive in business, life, and love & how growing up in a bed-and-breakfast disconnected her from her own needs Digging deeper into why empaths often struggle with people-pleasing, high-achieving, excessive caretaking, and authentically expressing their emotions Uncovering how you may be creating dynamics in your business, relationships, and life that set you up for giving too much and how to re-train the people in your life on what they can & can’t expect from you How to prevent burnout, misaligned relationships & partnerships, and stop giving from an empty love tank Nurturing more intimacy in life & business and learning how to lean in to nonviolent communication Episode Resources: Join us on May 13th at 12pm ET for our monthly Non-Networking Power Hour for Empath Entrepreneurs with our UNBOUNDED Community for deep connections and meaningful support. Today I’m kicking off a series of episodes on the Prosperous Empath® Podcast where I will dig into some commonalities that empaths and HSPs experience in entrepreneurship and leadership. In my years of working with empaths from all walks of life, I’ve noticed that we often share similar struggles and obstacles that we need to overcome to thrive and prosper. In this solo episode, I’m talking about the power of manifestation and the process of reconnecting with your dreams, desires, and creativity. To tell the truth, I have a love/hate relationship with the word “manifestation” - even though I have manifested many things in my life and business. If there’s a logical part of you that resists the concept of manifestation, you’ll resonate with this episode! I’m sharing nuggets of wisdom on how to become intentional with your thoughts and beliefs as well as my favorite manifestation practices to try. Topics: What manifestation is (and isn’t) and the idea that every result is the consequence of a previous thought and belief Identifying self-abandonment and the vulnerable practice of reconnecting with your dreams and creativity 8 manifestation practices that helped Catherine open her heart, trust her intuition, and start dreaming big again Reconnecting with your inner capacity for joy, finding your embodiment practice, and co-conspiring with the universe to create an aligned life The power of “acting as if” and embracing your skepticism to get out of your comfort zone and connect with the longings of your heart Episode Resources: Join us on May 13th at 12pm ET for our monthly Non-Networking Power Hour for Empath Entrepreneurs with our UNBOUNDED Community for deep connections and meaningful support. Kelsey quit her job at a big marketing agency to develop an innovative Google marketing framework that allows you to authentically share who you are while strategically using SEO to your advantage. I’m ecstatic to sit down for this insightful conversation with Isabelle Griffith, the Founder of The School Of Somatic Leadership For Women™, on this episode of the Prosperous Empath®. Isabelle is a Somatic and Embodied Feminine Leadership coach. Her life’s work is to help women break the internalized narratives that are keeping them feeling stressed, depleted, burnt out, and doubting their worth. After spending 20 years in the corporate world and having two beautiful children, she found herself severely burned out - although her seemingly perfect life “ticked” all the boxes. For Isabelle, experiencing burnout was a doorway to reconnecting with her feminine essence and discovering that a completely different way of life and leadership was possible. Many women live in their masculine energy by default, not tapping into the part of them that’s cyclical instead of linear. Through our conversation, Isabelle and I uncover how to find a renewed sense of inner authority, regulate your nervous system, and, most importantly, what it means to be an embodied feminine leader. Topics: Isabelle’s story of following the blueprint for the perfect life yet feeling completely broken and self-critical and how burnout was her doorway to transformation and change Recognizing where you’re living in your masculine and embarking on a tender journey of reclamation of your feminine The idea that conventional leadership is portrayed in a very masculine way (a man in a suit) and what it means to become an embodied feminine leader Becoming attuned to your body’s wisdom, emotions, and fluctuations, and regulating your nervous system to improve and expand your quality of being Learning how to trust yourself and the natural unfolding of life instead of being too attached to your goals and certain outcomes Episode Resources: Join us on April 15th at 12pm ET for our monthly Non-Networking Power Hour for Empath Entrepreneurs with our UNBOUNDED Mastermind Community for deep connections and meaningful support. If you’ve been a part of my community for a while, you know that intuition is one of my favorite topics to discuss. This is why I’m so excited to sit down with Jill L. Ferguson, serial entrepreneur, best-selling author, and international speaker, to talk about embracing your intuition and following a non-linear path in business and, perhaps even more importantly, life. Jill started her first business at the age of eighteen and has been in-and-out of self-employment ever since, authoring dozens of books and exploring different passions, from painting & photography to consulting & coaching. She learned early on that there’s no straight path to entrepreneurship, but along the way she has learned the importance of following your gut, saying yes to opportunities, and learning to trust yourself. Jill believes that all of us - especially Highly Sensitive People (HSPs) and empaths - were born with divine creativity within us. Yet, in a world that’s so focused on “staying on track,” cultivating a strong sense of self and giving yourself permission to explore is no easy feat. In this episode of the Prosperous Empath®, I’m sitting down with financial advisor and UNBOUNDED Mastermind Alum, Cris Caruso to talk about a phenomenon that many people have experienced in recent years: lifestyle creep. Cris has been in the financial services industry since 2004 and a financial advisor since 2008. Beyond that, she has pursued additional education in understanding how our behaviors shape financial outcomes by earning the Behavioral Financial Advisor designation from Think2Perform. She also earned the Accredited Domestic Partnership Advisor credential prior to 2015 as a way to support her LGBTQIA+bclients and continues to use this knowledge to work with unmarried couples and non-traditional families. You’ll appreciate her unique experience throughout today’s episode as she speaks on lifestyle creep, or lifestyle inflation, which is overspending on things that you don’t actually need as your income increases. When you’re early in your career, your spending habits focus on must-haves like housing and groceries. But as your income increases, it’s easy to lose track of what is a necessity and what are simply too many luxuries, and to just keep buying more. Cris and I discuss both values-based and practical strategies on how to identify the areas of your life you should spend generously on and where to be more mindful to reach your long-term goals. How do you live in alignment with your money, especially as an entrepreneur and an empath? You’ll get an answer to this question as you listen to our thought provoking conversation on purposeful spending, the importance of allowing yourself to have fun & fabulous experiences, and more. Topics: Understanding lifestyle creep and how to identify and avoid meaningless overspending The importance of spending generously on things that truly satisfy you and how to identify what they are Recognizing how perfectionism, scarcity mindset, and societal expectations are contributing to your relationship with money Finding the right balance between lifestyle creep and mindfully increasing your spending as your income grows Navigating financial planning as an entrepreneur with a fluctuating income that often grows quicker than expected How to start investing in a way that is aligned with your values and vision Episode Resources: The Millionaire Next Door The Next Millionaire Next Door We Should All Be Millionaires BottomLine Join us on April 15th at 12pm ET for our monthly Non-Networking Power Hour for Empath Entrepreneurs with our UNBOUNDED Mastermind Community for deep connections and meaningful support. As we are getting close to 100 episodes of the show, I'm feeling so reflective of the synergies and similar stories that I've heard time and time again during our guest episodes on the show. There's a couple of topics that are super important that I want to take the time to speak to because they feel like breakthroughs that empaths need to overcome in order to prosper. Specifically, I’m thinking of burnout, boundaries, and energy management. Today I want to focus on burnout because it is so worth talking about. Something I have so appreciated in hearing the stories and the journeys of some of our guests over the past two years is that their experience with burnout provided such an invaluable doorway to their success. I’ve found that oftentimes, the burnout experience can create a no looking back, opportunity to break through, to turn a corner, to start a new chapter, and ultimately to pave the way for success. I think that's why I've created such a beautiful, surrendered experience for myself with reaching burnout, but also being with clients when they're in their moments of burnout or breakdown. So listen to this episode to hear how you can focus your efforts to avoid giver burnout and cultivate more energy all the while prioritizing your own ambition and intentions. Topics: Catherine’s first experience with burnout while she was a student, volunteering in the Peace Corps and and working and how she’s taken lessons learned from this into her coaching practice The two types of giver burnout – physical/well-being and relationship – and being mindful of the energy and relationships you may be attracting The importance of receiving positive feedback and seeing the impact of your efforts so that you don’t feel taken advantage of and exhausted as a giver The difference between "other-ish" and "selfless" givers and where to focus your efforts to avoid burnout while managing your ambition Episode Resources: Give and Take: A Revolutionary Approach to Success by Adam Grant Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. I’ve been reflecting on my journey of growing my business as an empath and came across an interesting question: What sets apart empathpreneurs who prosper from those who fail? The hard truth is that empaths are not always successful. They have a tendency to give too much, sustain their business with self-sacrifice, and burn out. But what I noticed is that empathpreneurs who succeed always have a breakthrough in their capacity to receive. They’re the ones being vulnerable and asking for help when they need it instead of trying to do everything by themselves. So, how do you become better at receiving both in your personal relationships and at work? I’m sharing my best strategies on this episode of The Prosperous Empath®. Topics: The idea that empaths have to use different strategies and approaches to grow their business than non-empaths and how to use your empathic tendencies to your advantage The one seemingly-simple reason why some empaths fail and others prosper (backed by research) Catherine’s best strategies to ask for help more directly, simply, and openheartedly Cultivating self-honor, getting clear on what you need, and becoming a prosperous giver Episode Resources: Give and Take by Adam Grant Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. In this solo episode, I’m continuing the series on the foundational conversations I’ve had with all of my clients - as well as myself - as an empathpreneur. Many people talk about self-care and taking time to rest, but the truth is that it’s not easy to slow down. When things are going well in life and business, you may want to lean into that and pack your agenda with even more exciting things to do. In turn, when you find yourself in a bit of a slump, slowing down is challenging because you feel undeserving of resting. I’ve been there, and I’m focusing this episode on the importance of cultivating space in your schedule. I hope that after you finish listening, you’ll feel inspired to build a spacious life because it’s a gift that keeps on giving. Topics: Catherine’s personal experience with workaholism, constantly getting sick, and making the commitment to honor herself & her spacious schedule Recognizing negative patterns such as time scarcity and false urgency to overcome chronic overwhelm The idea that you need to slow down in order to speed up Getting to the root cause of why you need to always stay busy How to cultivate spaciousness in both your mind and schedule Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. As you’re listening to this episode, I’ll be on maternity leave learning to take care of our new baby which is just wild to think about. But, as I prepare for my leave, I have been thinking about what I want to share with you during that time. What am I wanting to bring more voice and power to? What has been really speaking to me is that I want to share more about some of the mindset work that I do with clients because I want you to have a little more access to some of the power and transformation that coaching can open up regardless of wherever you are on your own journey. So these next couple of solo episodes will dive into a different facet of this work that I love. Starting with this idea of “being” and “doing”. As an ambitious empath, I've come to deeply appreciate the importance of balancing being and doing in my entrepreneurial journey. I've learned that overemphasizing doing can lead to disconnection from our intuitive wisdom and emotional intelligence. By grounding in our essential being, we can tap into our creative potential, make more intentional choices, and experience more joy and fulfillment in our lives. Throughout this episode, I’m sharing six practices you can implement today to strengthen the muscle of balancing being and doing in entrepreneurship. I hope they’re helpful for you! Topics: Why the words “being” and “doing” have come to represent the essence of Catherine’s work as a coach and is at the core of her own journey of healing, growth, and transformation How hyperfocusing on on doing can more viscerally impact empaths and HSPs in a negative way because we aren’t leveraging our gifts Overcoming our unwillingness to sit with the fear we feel when we try something new and instead slowing down and meeting our own emotions for more calm and clarity Six practices you can implement today to strengthen the muscle of balancing being and doing in entrepreneurship Episode Resources: Leader As Healer: New Paradigm For 21st Century Leadership by Nicholas Janni Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. On this solo episode of The Prosperous Empath® Podcast, I’m diving into a topic that’s been a huge part of my personal development journey over the past decade: navigating overwhelm. As an ambitious empath, you’re likely a high achiever - someone who likes to do things well (or even perfectly) and holds themselves to a high standard. As a result, you may often get overwhelmed and need to find ways to manage or regulate your nervous system. I’m sharing my personal story about how I transformed my relationship with overwhelm as well as five powerful practices you can use to start feeling your feelings without being owned by them. Topics: Catherine’s personal experience with overwhelm and how one conversation changed the trajectory of her entire life Five powerful practices that helped Catherine and her clients redefine their relationship with overwhelm and stop being disempowered by it The power of venting and how to use humor to manage overwhelm as an empath Leveraging overwhelm as a signal and creating a distinct experience for yourself How to ask for support when you’re overwhelmed Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. I’m so excited to have a conversation with Shana James, a relationship coach and author with 20+ years of experience facilitating workshops on communication, mindfulness, psychology, and sensuality. Shana uses her gifts of empathy and compassion to support men and help them connect to themselves and their potential. In our society, men have a lot of power, but they also suffer alone and often struggle with emotional intimacy. As a result, they become more likely to harm themselves (suicide rates for men are three to four times higher than for women) and others. In our conversation, Shana and I dive deep into the nuances that are often lost in translation in heterosexual relationships to answer important questions: What does it mean to be human? What does it mean to be human together? If you have a male figure in your life, listen to this conversation to learn more about using empathy for more understanding, connection, and meaning. Topics: Shana’s experiences and motivations as the rare female coach who works primarily with men How to start seeing and understanding men behind the masks and facades of traditional masculinity Living beyond gender stereotypes and recognizing that many men want more emotional intimacy and connection in their relationships Moving beyond shame, blame, and fear and creating emotional safety in your relationships and communities How to connect beyond past resentments and start applying the nuggets of wisdom from our conversation to your real life Episode Resources: Honest Sex: A Passionate Path to Deepen Connection and Keep Relationships Alive by Shana James Redefining Masculinity: A Conversation on Men's Work and Vulnerability with Bob Conlin & Alex Terranova Connect with Catherine: Apply to join the free Unbounded community, a vibrant group of empathpreneurs who are passionate about supporting each other on our entrepreneurial journeys. If you haven’t already, go back and listen to last week’s episode! It’s linked below. Now, I talk about this a lot, but as coaches who are truly committed to our own craft, we can only go and grow with clients to the degree that we are willing to evolve with ourselves first. I understand that if I haven't had an insight or a breakthrough in my own personal journey in a specific area, then I will never see or be able to reflect that same gap in a client. In this episode, I’m sharing some of the top books that have helped me unlock new insights, deeper learnings and levels of self awareness and spiritual development in the realm of relationships, overcoming resistance, and money mindset. Welcome back to the Prosperous Empath®, during today’s episode, I'm excited to share with you some of the books that have completely unlocked new perspectives, levels of growth, transformed experiences in my relationships, with my finances, and have ultimately made the biggest difference for me in business and life over the past decade. Each of the books are either related to relationships, money mindset, or overcoming resistance. I’ll be sharing the top 13 books, but breaking them into a two-part series so make sure you’re subscribed to the show to be reminded of next week’s episode. Now, something I really appreciate about personal development books, leadership books, and self-help books is that some people can be empowered by them, and others not so much... If you are someone who uses personal development books to justify why you are where you are, consider not listening to this episode because I don't want to provide more fuel to that fire. But if you're willing to check your own assumptions and start questioning some of the bounds of what's possible for you and the people in your life, then listen on. Regina Carey joins me on The Prosperous Empath® this week for a truly heart-centered conversation about neurodivergence and how it is often interconnected with being an empath and/or HSP. Regina is a special ed teacher turned Executive Coach who has spent the last three decades educating, empowering, and advocating for those who feel stuck, yet long to take that next great leap. Recently, she returned from an adventurous trip to Machu Picchu and shares her experience of how saying yes to physical challenges has helped her balance intense emotions as an empath. But something I deeply appreciate about this conversation are Regina’s insights on neurodivergence, especially ADHD, and the importance of managing energy and advocating for oneself. Regina reflects on her upbringing and the influence of the women in her life, emphasizing the need to break patterns of burnout and dis-ease to live authentically. This episode is for anyone who is neurodivergent (or loves someone who is) and is seeking energetic balance in their life. Tune in for actionable steps on thriving more as an ambitious empath. Topics: How recognizing energy is everything is the thing that has made the biggest difference for Regina in thriving as a Prosperous Empath® What “micro-recoveries” are, why they are better than self-care and how they can help you stay in positive, balanced energy The connection between neurodivergence, empathy, high sensitivity, and entrepreneurship and how you as a coach, friend, or partner can support Understanding common comorbidities of neurodivergence and how you, as a coach or service-provider, can support your clients in being understood Learning how to advocate for yourself and use your voice to ask for what you need, avoid overwhelm and foster more processing time Why, as empaths, we must learn to care less about what others think of us in order to find and pursue our own purpose in life Episode Resources: Join us on Monday, August 5th at 12pm ET for our monthly Non-Networking Power Hour for Empathpreneurs with our UNBOUNDED Community for deep connections and meaningful support. On this solo episode of the Prosperous Empath® Podcast, I want to share with you the messy middle of this season of life & business. I’ve been in the world of personal development for the past decade, and I often see high-level coaches and leaders zoom in on the big transformations and results they’ve achieved without revealing the breakdowns, breakthroughs, and learnings they experienced and overcame along the way. Growing up in a Bed & Breakfast, I’ve always had an appreciation for a neat and organized space. It’s one of the reasons why I’m so excited about my conversation with Rebecca Jo-Rushdy, a KonMari® consultant who guides sensitive souls on transformational journeys by decluttering their homes, hearts, and minds into sanctuaries that spark joy and flow. As a fellow empath, Rebecca understands that the practice of decluttering your home is not about just freeing up the physical space. It’s also an emotional experience woven with our cherished memories, relationships with our loved ones, and our own evolutions as human beings. From cultivating awareness to setting goals that don’t upset your nervous system, you will walk away from this episode with newfound clarity and wisdom on creating a mindful environment that sets you up for success.
