In this episode, we speak with Michele Simon, JD, MPH; a workplace trauma lawyer, author, and fearless advocate for women in the food industry. Michele has always been one to call things as she sees them, and when she entered the industry that she loved and believed in, it shocked her to discover a culture of ill-treatment towards women. Despite the industry's apparent dedication to treating food with care and respect, the same could not be said for the treatment of women within it.
Michele's experience in the industry and creation of new knowledge led her to write a groundbreaking book, "Appetite for Profit: The Food Industry Undermines Our Health and How to Fight Back."
Forced to sign a Non-Disparagement Agreement, Michele realized that her voice, and the voices of other employees, were being silenced. Her experience led her to a new career in lobbying for policy change. In our conversation, Michele shares her insights into the way that Non-Competes, Non-Disclosures, and Non-Disparagement agreements are used as weapons against employees, and how these agreements must be reformed.
Join us for a thought-provoking discussion about the natural food industry, the importance of speaking out against mistreatment, and the urgent need for policy change to protect employees' rights. With Michele's knowledge and passion, this episode is sure to inspire and empower listeners.
