In this episode of Aleph Podcast, A for Aleph Founder Umair Dar had the great pleasure of having Haniya Aslam at our studio who is a Pakistani singer-songwriter, guitarist, and music producer. She is best known as one-half of the folk-rock duo Zeb & Haniya. The duo gained popularity with their soulful melodies and blend of various regional and Western music styles showcased in their critically acclaimed debut record ‘Chup!’ released in 2008. The songs ‘Paimona’ & ‘Chal Diyay’ were featured in the popular Pakistani music television series Coke Studio Season 2 which was widely appreciated worldwide and helped solidify Zeb & Haniya's reputation as innovative Pakistani musicians who seamlessly blend various cultural and Western musical influences.
After the duo's hiatus in '14, Haniya went on to explore her solo career, studied production & engineering, composed music for films, and produced records for other artists as well. Her solo album ‘Ayi Re’ (2020) is out now while she works on her next album, featuring master musicians in the subcontinent.
