The United States of America is far from perfect, but it has been a thriving aspiration of this nation to always move closer and closer towards perfection. The preamble to the Constitution says, "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity..." Over the 236 years since this preamble was composed our nation has always aspired to move towards a more perfect Union, whether if it was fighting a Civil War to end slavery, winning equal rights for woman and minorities, or ending segregation and Jim Crow in the South. We have always sought to be better, and slowly but surely we have moved closer to that more perfect Union. However, lately we seem to have taken a U-turn and we are moving our Union away from perfection. How does the indictment of President Trump in New York demonstrate a departure from our pursuit for perfection, and takes us down the path of becoming like many other despotic nations?
