CNN fact checker, Daniel Dale fact checked President Trump after his recent debate with President Biden. One issue he claimed Trump “lied” about was on the topic of the January 6 riot at the Capitol three years ago. Trump said he offered National Guard support to then Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, but she turned the offer down. Dale claimed that Trump, as Commander in Chief, had more authority to deploy the military than Nancy Pelosi. It’s specious, because although it is true the Commander in Chief has authority over the military, the separation of powers prevents the President from sending the military to another branch of government without a formal request. Why did the legislative branch fail to make a formal request for National Guard assistance before the riot; despite getting an internal report stating violence was expected and Congress was the target? Join the conversation and get answers to this question and more on According2Sam episode #224.
