Some occasions are simply magnificent in their flawed beauty.

Yesterday’s gut-wrenching FA Cup quarter-final penalty shootout defeat to the South Coast’s Seagulls, having come achingly close to winning the tie in normal time, will live long in the memories of all Millwall fans who were privileged to be at The Den.

Of course it still doesn’t seem that way, so painfully close to Jake Cooper’s sudden death miss, but with the passage of time this may yet prove to be one of the great Millwall occasions.

None of us follow the Lions for the success (just as well), but the collective bravery, commitment and will power of our players and fans yesterday was exactly what following our beloved ‘Wall is all about.

Defeat we can take. Lack of bottle, never.

From David Martin in goal, the running and strength of the Ryans Leonard and Tunnicliffe, through to Lee Gregory up front, this was a proper MILLWALL performance.

If you can bear to listen again, the noise and tumult from the terraces was as good as anything heard at Zampa Road or Cold Blow Lane. Quite an accolade.

Well done Millwall FC, players and management. We are proud of you - and that is all we ever ask ...

Arrivederci Millwall
