Aisha Ayensu is the Founder, CEO and Creative Director of Christie Brown a fashion house based out of Accra, Ghana. An award winning fashion designer, Aisha started Christie Brown in 2008, in her final year of university, naming the company after her grand mother who was a seamstress and her inspiration. Christie Brown has grown to become an internationally recognized fashion brand manufacturing women's apparel and accessories primarily inspired by African art and culture.
We talked about how being young and naive helped her at start up, the need to master ones craft, making the most of celebrities wearing ones brand and how she's taking the brand global. We also talk about how she creatively maneuvered the COVID-19 crisis, put on 2 virtual runway shows, expanded e-commerce capabilities and provided much needed jobs for people in the community.
Aisha won the Emerging Designer of the year (Arise Fashion Week, South Africa) Award in 2009 and the African Designer of the year (Glitz Style Awards, Ghana) in 2018 and 2019. Christie Brown has participated in exhibitions and runway shows around the world and featured in multiple international magazines.
Aisha's African Business Story is dedicated to retelling the African story through fashion and contributing to job creation and empowering of people in Africa.
