Mary Angelini saw a problem and decided to do something about it. After high school graduation, Mary’s daughter, Gabi, was unable to get a job. No one could see past her diagnosis of Down Syndrome and see what Gabi had to offer. Mary and Gabi were determined to help shift the conversation from disabilities to neuro-diversity and the power of inclusion. Mary, who was an administrative assistant at a church at the time, jumped off the cliff. She quit her job and started a small coffee company with Gabi. Today, “Gabi’s Powered by Special Abilities” is a full-scale packaging, assembling, labeling, and shipping company. It is an award-winning nonprofit organization that has a team of more than 45 people living with special abilities including blindness, autism, Down syndrome, and more. In this episode, Mary shares how her daughter, who she also describes as her best friend, led her to her purpose in life.
