In this episode we speak to activist and journalist Akyaaba Addai-Sebo, one of the architects behind the creation of Black History Month in the UK back in 1987.
In this first segment, he talks about how the 1966 coup d’etat in Ghana, that ousted Dr Kwame Nkrumah from power, changed his life.
He explains what it felt like as a young activist in Washington DC to be part of the biggest rally of Black People in 1976, and working with CLR James, John Henrik Clarke and Jewell Mazique.
He also tells us what inspired him to develop Black History Month in the UK.
In part two, he talks about African consciousness and the move to encourage people from the African diaspora to return home.
