*Pastor Nick Abraham - Galatians 5:25 - 6:18*
"For freedom Christ has set us free..." In his letter, the Apostle Paul reminded the churches in Galatia of this wonderful truth, but what does it mean? What does it mean that Jesus has set us free? Free from what? These questions and the answers to these questions are far more relevant to us today than we might realize.
We naturally gravitate towards certain ways of trying to live before God. There are actual impulses in us to want to perform, to impress, and to earn our way. In fact, that kind of behavior is very American. Our culture and society is built on the backs of hardworking people that have a certain stick-to-itiveness. That's not all bad, but that kind of thinking can be harmful for us if we use it in how we relate to God. The good news of Jesus Christ is fundamentally about what HE did for us, not what WE do for Him.
In his letter to the churches in Galatia, the Apostle Paul, under the inspiration of God, the Holy Spirit, is reminding Christians of the central message of the gospel. He is also unashamedly combating false messages that seek to distort the one and only gospel message. Let's pray that our study of this great text of Holy Scripture will either bring us back on track, set us on track for the first time, or encourage us as we continue on track with Jesus Christ!
