Listen to Derek talk about his ups and downs during his service to the Navy. Derek did not have an easy ride with the Navy by any means. He opens up to me about his struggles with becoming a Father and losing his grandfather on the same day, then waiting to be assigned to his first ship with much excitement just to find out he possibly got assigned to one of the worst ships in the fleet. Derek opens my eyes about what it was like to be on ship during a deployment and all the stress he went through during that time in his life. Unfortunately the ship Derek was assigned to had a active shooter and he lost one of his shipmates. Derek is a success story, he hit his all time low while on ship deployed away from his family on one of the worst ships to be on at that time as he took his first attempt at ending his life. I am very grateful he did not achieve his goal at that time and was able to turn his life around and become a great providing father to his two kids and became an engineer to one of the best companies to work for.
