GAG ORDER

The judge forbid the accused from telling a joke for 30 days

What’s so funny about this? Actually there is nothing funny about this except the title which is the whole joke. It’s a word play of “gag” which has a double meaning. The first is a cloth that is put around a person’s mouth to prevent them from talking. As you see the accused has not only been gagged, but also tied up so that he cannot move or speak. And we really don’t know why. When a judge issues a gag order, it’s to forbid any reporting about a particular case either by the press or by the plaintiff and/or defendant. However a “gag” is also a synonym for a joke. So the accused must be a pretty terrible comedian because the judge has issued a gag order, totally silencing the comic both physically and legally. This is not a laughing matter. And THAT’s what’s so funny!
