This piece was produced as part of Marilyn Montúfar‘s Jack Straw Artist Support Program project, a photography series focused on mentoring and photographing Chicana and female migrant youth with heritage in Mexico. The participating youth have been mentored in art by Marilyn and in self-expression through writing by Matt Malyon, Executive Director of Underground Writing. Through the Artist Support Program, participating youth have the opportunity to record their writing and work in Jack Straw’s studios with additional training from Jack Straw vocal coach Brenda Arellano. The audio will be included in future art installations.
