Joe Lycett is a British comedian who gained management and TV exposure very quickly (by most peoples standards). He got the final of a few awards which led to him being picked up by industry which has led to him getting appearances on TV and radio including Live At The Apollo, 8 Out Of 10 Cats and Never Mind The Buzzcocks. We talked about the pros and cons of comedy awards, having management (and finding the right management) and his thoughts on why reviewing isn't a noble profession. We talked about -

Repeating jokes How Joe Lycett sees himself as a character. How repeat jokes can help build fans and references that your fans enjoy and feel a part of. The pros and cons of having a large social media following Why Fern Britton blocked him on Twitter. The inception of his “always a pleasure” blog His advice on building loyal social media fans The pros and cons of doing competitions and how they helped / held him back. How to pick an agent. His origin story and his first gig at the comedy store gong show... Can you make a living as a gigging comedian and nothing else? Do you have to burn a set once it has been shown on TV? Why he doesn’t read reviews and doesn’t think being a reviewer is a noble profession How has his management steered his comedy to make it marketable.
AND MORE! This podcast would be useful to anyone interested in building a career as a comedian, finding an agent, marketing a show and performing on TV. My 2nd book is finally out! It's called "How To Make A Living By Working For Free" and you can buy it here for £5 (digital) or £8 (paperback). Here's the synopsis of the book -

The book is a how-to guide for artists to create their own online community for their work and how that community can support the artist to become sustainable in every way.
The book takes a critical and in-depth look at the media's perception of "free content" vs the reality of what the general public see it as.
If you're an artist in the modern age who wants a sustainable audience you're no longer just an artist, you're a community leader.

If you'd like to read the first few chapters of the book you can find a PDF version of that here.
