The Bible doesn’t address self-love directly in the way contemporary culture might define it, but it does imply the importance of a healthy self-regard through its commandments and teachings. For instance, the commandment to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18, Matthew 22:39) suggests an assumption of self-care and self-respect as a baseline for how we treat others.

It encourages us to see ourselves as God sees us—valuable and worthy of love and care. This includes taking care of our physical, emotional, and spiritual needs and recognizing our own worth in God’s eyes.
