The State of Talent Development: Today's Challenges, Tomorrow's Opportunities- General Meeting

It’s that time of year again!. Organizations are reflecting on annual business goals and planning for the year ahead. Talent Development is no different. Teams are busy setting goals and securing the budget to deliver effective training programs that will enable their organizations to reach their business goals. We'll look at the current ATD State of the Industry report. We will also dive into specific trends such as the use of technology in the classroom.

The State of the Industry report is ATD's annual review of talent development trends, spending, and activities. If you are a member of ATD, you can download the report for free: https://www.td.org/state-of-the-industry/2022-state-of-the-industry

During this meeting we will discuss key benchmarks from the report, such as:

  • Direct learning expenditure
  • The average number of training hours employees are using
  • Delivery methods companies are implementing
  • Content areas organizations are focusing on
  • On-the-job learning opportunities employers are providing

Objectives

  • Benchmark your organization’s learning spending, hours, and activities against other participating organizations.
  • Discover what learning delivery methods are being used in the industry, including technology-base methods.
  • Understand what learning content areas organizations are focusing on in their efforts to close skills gaps and meet business needs.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Debbie Richards, president of Creative Interactive Ideas, supports talent development clients with technology challenges. She updates her job knowledge by researching new technologies and software products; participating in educational opportunities (such as speaking at learning conferences); and participating in professional organizations. Debbie was named one of the most influential people in corporate e-learning.

Passionate about working with and mentoring other learning professionals, Debbie is a director at L&D Cares - The non-profit group provides talent development professionals no-cost coaching, mentoring, and resources to help them thrive and flourish in their careers.

Debbie is the past president of the ATD Houston chapter and a past National Advisor for Chapters. She was the ATD Technology Conference Advisory Council chairperson for 2019. Debbie is the author of “Seeing the Possibilities With Augmented Reality,” an ATD TD at Work publication is found at https://www.td.org/td-at-work/seeing-the-possibilities-with-augmented-reality.

She was also awarded the title of "Guild Master" by the Learning Guild in 2022. The purpose of the Guild Master Award is to recognize those members who have consistently contributed to the community in terms of both quantity and quality of content—and thus helped make the community a vibrant center for learning.
