For the 101st Avenue Red Podcast we present some fresh talent, a mysterious lady known as Becks who is originally from St. Louis, USA but has lived most of her life in Frankfurt, Germany, where her parents originated. Here Becks lays down an atmospheric mixture of electronic music that is very evocative, with smoked-out film noir vibes, a hint of Alice In Wonderland and stark, cold glacial landscapes coming through her selections. "I'll try to express what drove me to record/select this mix. There is at first my basic perception of music as a pretty unique language, a way of dreaming whilst being awake. To me, recording a mix is about telling a story, yet without the limitations imposed by vocabulary. So I'm trying to invite the listener to follow me, take part in my imagination or follow one's own while merging with the music's emotional landscape. It can oscillate from seriousness to playfulness to yearning to hardness. The picture I chose for the mix somehow reflects its predominant ambience: a heavy sky with a few rays of sunlight shining through, as an image of longing or hoping, yet not fully clear (thanks to the old, worn photographic film). But still, I find it quite hard to put that into my own words. To me, music is really important, having the potential of creating an emotional room - but I don't count myself as important in it. I might create parts of it while selecting and mixing, but whoever listens enters the space and shares it." Becks, December 2017 https://soundcloud.com/re-sch
