“A fascinating and compelling case that right-wing politics has subverted our democracy … This book unmasks the politics of fear – the deeper chords touched by campaigns that appeal to the dark side.” – Robert Shrum

Bryant Welch is a clinical psychologist and attorney who has been observing the American mind as it has played out in the political arena for over two decades.

Dr. Welch’s most recent book, “State of Confusion: Political Manipulation and The Assault on the American Mind,” was prescient in its prediction of the current American political climate.

He wrote “State of Confusion” due to his increasing concerns with the growing instability of the American mind, itself, as it struggles under trauma and political manipulation to bear the psychological burdens needed to maintain democracy.

Dr. Welch predicted that the assault from the right would destabilize the ability of citizens to discern right from wrong, honest from dishonest, pushing our democracy into a slide towards dictatorship.
