Call me! This week, I’m THRILLED to be speaking with Gary Lachman, who played bass guitar for the iconic rock group Blondie before embarking upon a successful legacy as a biographer of major figures in philosophy, psychology, and mysticism.

Gary and I begin by discussing his wonderful book Jung the Mystic, which I stumbled upon in a library several years ago.

Then, we talk about the turning points in Gary’s life story: comic books, rock music, and Jung!

Gary talks about how he learned to read through comic books and how the lessons he learned from those stories inspired his songwriting and later allowed him to understand and write about major thinkers and their profound ideas about life in a fun and enjoyable way!

Then, Gary and I go on a trip down memory lane when he shares about the beginnings of Blondie, living with his bandmates, writing songs like I’m Always Touched by Your Presence Dear, and what led to his departure from the group.

Then, Gary shares about his time between Blondie and finding his path as a writer, when he founded his own band called The Know and toured with Iggy Pop, followed the teachings of Aleister Crowley and was deeply impacted by Colin Wilson’s book The Occult, and eventually found his way to London.

Gary ends by sharing deep, powerful thoughts about unpacking the potential of who we truly are, following our interests, and the win-win strategy of believing that life has meaning. I’m sure that by the end of this hour, we’re all going to be inspired by Gary’s story, which will prove that if we follow our interests and take risks, we will undoubtedly create a meaningful life.
