On episode #13, I’m joined by Derek Abbey Ph.D., president, and CEO of Project Recover. Project Recover is a collaborative partnership with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego, and University of Delaware using 21st-century science and technology in a quest to find and repatriate Americans missing in action (MIA) since World War II. The amazing work that Derek and his team are doing provides recognition and closure for families of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Project Recover recently released “To What Remains" a stirring, feature-length documentary that follows Project Recover’s search for the more than 80,000 Americans missing in action since World War II. “To What Remains” is screening at the Tower theater on 1.20.22 and available online.
Prior to joining Project Recover, Derek served in the United States Marine Corps, first as an enlisted Marine and ultimately as an F-18 fighter pilot. Derek ended his unique military career as one of the original members of the Marine Forces Special Operations Command known as MARSOC. Having obtained his Ph.D. in Leadership and described as artful in his leadership style, Derek is helping scale the efforts of Project Recover globally, keeping the promise America has made to her missing service members. Thanks for your time Derek! You’re a hell of an individual and it was an absolute pleasure getting to talk with you.
