Pastors and elders have the great privilege of getting to help shepherd the flock of God. This is one of the most wonderful and joy-inducing roles a person can take on, but it is heavy responsibility. The enemy wants nothing more than to see the church fail; therefore, ensnaring church leaders in sin is one of his highest priorities. Paul knows this, and is writing to help Timothy navigate the difficult terrain that pastoring can be. But this message isn't just for Timothy and other elders, it is for all of us. Remember from 1 Timothy 3 that elders are meant to be men who exemplify the character all of us are to be living out. They are to lead by example in faithful teaching, living, and caring for others.
