Today's episode of 'Beyond Survival: The New Teacher podcast' is with Rachel Alexander. Rachel is an English teacher, mentor of new teachers and author of a range of excellent books for English teachers.
She also does a huge amount of positive work around mental health. In this interview we answer the central question: How can we look after our own and each other's mental health?
In answering that central question we also explore:
1. What has helped you to look after your own mental health as a teacher?
2. What do you think is helpful in supporting other colleagues with their mental health in schools?
3. What can teachers do to support the mental health of their pupils?
4. You do a huge amount of work in supporting new teachers through mentoring and university, what are your top tips for a successful start to a teaching career?
I hope you really enjoy the episode. I am also launching a YouTube channel this week, with a series called 'New Teacher Essentials'. This involves five fifteen minute videos exploring key aspects of teaching at the start of your career: https://www.youtube.com/@BeyondSurvivalTheNewTeac-rs8tp.
