Favorite quotes of the episode:

“Systems and processes aren’t sexy, but they are an important and necessary part of your business.”

“Systems and SOPs are the infrastructure that give us the freedom to work less.”

Start documenting your business processes from the beginning, “It wasn’t until we had a front office employee leave that we realized all of our systems and processes for running our business were in her head.”

“Begin with the end in mind.” -Stephen Covey

“You can always have a mile-long task list, so I try to keep in mind what are the top three things I need to accomplish for the day.”

Episode Overview

In this episode, I talk with physical therapist, Dr. Robert Moss. He has 22+ years of experience as a physical therapist with an emphasis on orthopedics. He has taught continuing education courses for physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and athletic trainers across the United States. In 2006, Dr. Moss opened MOSS Rehabilitation Center to help transform the lives of everyday people by quickly getting them out of pain and back to normal after an injury or surgery naturally without pills, injections, or surgery.

Over the years, he has developed his business and leadership skills to streamline his processes and improve the experience of his patients. He has a passion for helping other business owners regain the freedom and profitability they desire while increasing customer happiness.

TOPICS

  • Now is the time to analyze processes and make your customers (and family) happier.
  • How to put SOPs in place, how often to review them, and how to test them.
  • What mindset shift needs to occur to increase profitability while working less?
  • How COVID-19 has impacted business, created opportunities, and changed customer relations.
  • Thoughts on dealing with a constant cycle of change.

5 Questions Segment

Q1. We know that the most successful and happy people have a morning routine, what do you do each morning or evening that sets your day up for success? I have a toddler, so for me, the evening is where the magic happens. I journal and write down what I’m grateful for. I also ask, what did I learn today? If I had today to do over, what would I change, what can I learn from that? I also give myself a problem or a question that I want my subconscious to work on overnight.

Q2. What's your definition of Success? For me, it’s to have the freedom of time, money, and energy to be able to do the things I want to do.

Q3. What's your definition of Happiness? Being present and being in the moment.

Q4. What do you know now that you wish you would have known 10 years ago? Invest in toilet paper—that’s a joke. But seriously, not to sacrifice your family time for work time. Work will always be there. The other thing, don’t wait until you have something painful happen in your business, like I did, to start documenting your systems, start working on those now.

Q5. What do you think is the biggest issue facing busy professionals today? That whole notion of a work-life balance, figuring out how to be present in the moment. David Allen from getting things done says, “it’s the game of work and the business of life.”
