sri-bhagavan uvaca
idam tu te guhyatamam
pravaksyamy anasuyave
jnanam vijnana-sahitam
yaj jnatva moksyase ‘subhat

SYNONYMS
?r? bhagavan uv?ca—the Supreme Personality of Godhead said; idam—this; tu—but; te—unto you; guhyatamam—most confidential; pravak?y?mi—I am speaking; anas?yave—to the nonenvious; jñ?nam—knowledge; vijñ?na—realized knowledge; sahitam—with; yat—which; jñ?tv?—knowing; mok?yase—be released; a?ubh?t—from this miserable material existence.

TRANSLATION
The Supreme Lord said: My dear Arjuna, because you are never envious of Me, I shall impart to you this most secret wisdom, knowing which you shall be relieved of the miseries of material existence.

VERSE 2

?????????????? ??????? ?????? ????????????? ?

raja-vidya raja-guhyam
pavitram idam uttamam
pratyaksavagamam dharmyam
su-sukham kartum avyayam

SYNONYMS
r?ja-vidy?—the king of education; r?ja-guhyam—the king of confidential knowledge; pavitram—the purest; idam—this; uttamam—transcendental; pratyak?a—directly experienced; avagamam—understood; dharmyam—the principle of religion; susukham—very happy; kartum—to execute; avyayam—everlasting.

TRANSLATION
This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets. It is the purest knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realization, it is the perfection of religion. It is everlasting, and it is joyfully performed.

VERSE 3

asraddadhanah purusa
dharmasyasya parantapa
aprapya mam nivartante
mrtyu-samsara-vartmani

SYNONYMS
a?raddadh?n??—those who are faithless; puru???—such persons; dharmasya—of this process of religion; asya—of it; parantapa—O killer of the enemies; apr?pya—without obtaining; m?m—Me; nivartante—come back; m?tyu—death; sa?s?ra—material existence; vartmani—on the path of.

TRANSLATION
Those who are not faithful on the path of devotional service cannot attain Me, O conqueror of foes, but return to birth and death in this material world.

VERSE 4

????????? ?????????? ? ???? ?????????? ?

maya tatam idam sarvam
jagad avyakta-murtina
mat-sthani sarva-bhutani
na caham tesv avasthitah

SYNONYMS
may?—by Me; tatam—spread; idam—all these manifestations; sarvam—all; jagat—cosmic manifestation; avyakta-m?rtin?—unmanifested form; mat-sth?ni—unto Me; sarva-bh?t?ni—all living entities; na—not; ca—also; aham—I; te?u—in them; avasthita?—situated.

TRANSLATION
By Me, in My unmanifested form, this entire universe is pervaded. All beings are in Me, but I am not in them.

VERSE 5

???????? ? ??????? ??????? ???????? ?

na ca mat-sthani bhutani
pasya me yogam aisvaram
bhuta-bhrn na ca bhuta-stho
mamatma bhuta-bhavanah

SYNONYMS
na—never; ca—also; mat-sth?ni—situated in Me; bh?t?ni—all creation; pa?ya—just see; me—My; yogam ai?varam—inconceivable mystic power; bh?ta-bh?t—maintainer of all living entities; na—never; ca—also; bh?ta-stha?—in the cosmic manifestation; mama—My; ?tm?—Self; bh?ta-bh?vana?—is the source of all manifestations.

TRANSLATION
And yet everything that is created does not rest in Me. Behold My mystic opulence! Although I am the maintainer of all living entities, and although I am everywhere, still My Self is the very source of creation.
