*WARNING: CONTROVERSIAL TOPIC!!* Episode 74 John 18 - @biblebourbonsbrews holiday hard cider - Religion Killed Jesus. Read that again. Religion killed Jesus. Now I know this is going to be a hot topic, controversial even, but it’s the simple truth. As we’ve studied Jesus’s life through the first few Gospels and now into John chapter 18, it’s clear to see who was persecuting Jesus. It’s easy to see who is trying to trap Him with the law and the word at every turn. It’s easy to see who was jealous of his popularity. it’s easy to see who was plotting against him. They say if you read a book, it’s easy to tell who the good guys and bad guys are. The Bible is no different. If we take it on the surface and read the words on the pages, the answer is clear: Religion killed Jesus. John 18:3 “The chief priests and Pharisees had given Judas a squad of soldiers and police to accompany him.” Notice here that It wasn’t society, it wasn’t the people that he preached to, it wasn’t his family, it wasn’t the disciples, it wasn’t even the Roman government! V. 38-39: What is truth?” Pilate exclaimed. Then he went out again to the people and told them, “he is not guilty of any crime. But you have a custom of asking me to release someone from prison each year at Passover. So if you want me to, I will release the king of the Jews.“ (Pilot was the Roman governor of the area at the time and he found no fault in him and wanted to release him!) If you need more proof of who was trying to kill Jesus, here he says it in his own words: “I am not an earthly king. If I were, my followers would have thought when I was arrested by the Jewish leaders.” v. 36. There it is folks. Straight from his mouth, “I was arrested by the Jewish leaders.” Religion killed Jesus. I don’t know about you, but this passage was eye-opening for me. Let me know what you think: biblebourbonsbrews@gmail.com This week we’re going off the board with our review and I’ll be reviewing my own Holiday hard cider. It’s a sweet cider with cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of black pepper and with 10% ABV!! Tune in to the podcast for our big announcements! Cheers to a great week ahead everyone! - BBB
